Team members enjoy a supportive workplace committed to professional growth, exceptional patient care, and making a positive impact in the community.Preoperative DutiesPatient Assessment: Conduct thorough preoperative assessments to collect patient medical histories, vital signs, and current medications.Patient Education: Educate patients and their families on the surgical process, postoperative care instructions, and any necessary preparations.Medication Administration: Administer prescribed medications, including preoperative sedatives and antibiotics, in accordance with physician orders and best practices.Infection Control: Ensure strict adherence to infection control protocols to minimize the risk of surgical site infections.IV Line Management: Establish and maintain intravenous (IV) lines as required, and monitor fluid and electrolyte balance.Collaboration: Collaborate closely with the surgical team, anesthesiologists, and other healthcare professionals to ensure the smooth flow of preoperative preparations.Postoperative DutiesRecovery Care: Provide postoperative care to patients in the post-anesthesia care unit (PACU), monitoring vital signs, pain levels, and overall well-being.Patient Advocacy: Advocate for patients' comfort and safety, managing pain and addressing any immediate postoperative concerns.Assessment: Continuously assess patients for signs of complications or adverse reactions, taking prompt action as needed.Medication Management: Administer postoperative medications, including pain management and antiemetics, while closely monitoring their effects.Documentation: Maintain accurate and comprehensive patient records, documenting all care provided, observations, and patient responses.Discharge Planning: Collaborate with the surgical team to ensure patients are ready for discharge and providing discharge instructions.Additional Job DutyPerforms circulating and/or scrub responsibilities as needed to support surgical procedures and ensure efficient patient care and operating room workflow.QualificationsGraduate of an accredited RN School of NursingActive RN license in the stateBLS and ACLS Required, PALS if required by the center2 years of experience in PACU or Critical Care preferredAbility to make decisions based on nursing judgmentAble to prioritize and organize workload to meet the needs of patients and the unitStrong communication skills, verbal and writtenWhat We OfferAs an organization, one way we care for our communities and each other is by providing a comprehensive benefits package that includes the following, subject to employment status:Medical, dental, vision, and prescription coverageLife and AD&D coverageAvailability of short- and long-term disabilityFlexible financial benefits including FSAs and HSAs401(k) and access to retirement planningPaid holidays and vacationAt USPI, we create relationships that create better care.
