Position: Process Engineer I

Toray Performance Materials Corporation (TPMC) is seeking a Process Engineer I to support manufacturing process development, process control, optimization, scrap reduction, engineering trials, and continuous improvement initiatives for composite products.

Position Overview :

The Process Engineer I will support manufacturing process development, process control and optimization, scrap reduction, engineering trials, and continuous improvement initiatives for composite products. This role will assist with troubleshooting production issues, documenting process parameters, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to support safety, quality, cost, and throughput goals.

Major Duties and Requirements (focusing on assisting production manager and learning):

• Gain knowledge and comprehension of various process engineering activities encompassing a wide range of processes such as manufacturing, process control and optimization, scrap reduction, and engineering trials.
• Demonstrate expertise in identifying and resolving issues associated with manufacturing processes.
• Contribute to establishing and monitoring process performance standards that measure quality, waste reduction, and throughput.
• Provide constructive feedback for operational reviews aimed at enhancing safety, optimizing processes, and reducing costs.
• Assist in conducting investigations and resolving operational non-conformances and customer-related issues.
• Use the Design of Experiments (DOE) approach to facilitate data-based decision-making.
• Plan and execute capital programs and process improvement activities as directed.
• Support targeted projects by defining and documenting product and processing parameters, capability, cost reductions, and manufacturing requirements.
• Exhibit proficiency in evaluating, troubleshooting, and resolving process issues on the production floor.
• Prepare comprehensive documentation of manufacturing processes and methods in compliance with ISO 9001 or equivalent quality system requirements.
• Create and maintain manufacturing configurations, bills of materials, routers, work instructions, SPC/SQC, and control plans using best practices in manufacturing engineering.
• Collaborate with Production, R&D, Quality, Expert Service, Sales, and Production Management teams to achieve the company's objectives.
• Assume responsibility for safety and environmental issues related to manufacturing processes and equipment.
• Be flexible and available to work outside of regular hours as needed.
• Offer guidance to expert service and sales teams regarding materials selection, testing, and analysis.

Experience, Education Requirements, and Language Skills:

• A bachelor's degree in engineering, preferably in Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, or Aerospace is required; advanced degree preferred.
• 0–3 years of experience working with composites is necessary.
• Knowledge of composites manufacturing technologies and equipment such as compression molding, hand layup, molds, presses, and related processes is required.
• A background in Design of Experiments (DOE) is necessary; Lean and Six Sigma methodology experience is strongly preferred.
• Experience in 5S is preferred.
• Excellent organizational and time management skills, with strong attention to detail and the ability to multitask effectively.
• Experience in technical documentation and writing scientific papers is preferred.
• Proficient with AutoCAD and SolidWorks.
• Advanced user of Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project, Outlook, and related applications.
• Knowledge of business ERP systems is preferred, such as Microsoft Navision or a similar system.
• Flexibility in working hours is required due to the global team nature of the job, with the ability to communicate effectively between teams in the USA and Asia.
• Up to 10% travel domestically and overseas, including Asia Pacific; must be able to obtain and maintain all necessary travel documentation.

Compensation: A competitive compensation package including base salary, potential for bonus based on performance, health insurance, and 401k will be available to the qualified applicant.

Salary Information

$80,000 – $100,000

The pay range above represents the expected offer range for the position. Factors that may be used to determine where newly hired employees will be placed in the pay range include the employee specific skills and qualifications, relevant years of experience and comparison to internal equity.
