Job Title: CNC Programmer Job Description This role focuses on creating and optimizing CNC programs for multi-axis mills and lathes using GibbsCam software, supporting the production of very large and heavy control flow parts. You will translate engineering drawings into efficient machining programs, collaborate closely with machinists to define tooling and machining methods, and contribute to continuous improvement of manufacturing processes and equipment maintenance documentation. Responsibilities Create, optimize, and maintain CNC programs for multi-axis mills and lathes using GibbsCam software. Program a variety of machines, including 5-axis vertical mills, lathes, a vertical boring lathe with live tooling, and a horizontal lathe with live tooling, for very large and heavy control flow parts up to 70"+ OD. Interpret engineering drawings to develop accurate machining programs, including defining control settings, machining methods, and routing steps. Work closely with machinists to determine tooling requirements and ensure programs are practical, efficient, and aligned with shop capabilities. Research new machining technologies and tooling to improve existing processes and enhance productivity and quality. Maintain and organize the CNC program database to ensure accurate distribution of programs to machine centers and consistent revision control. Assist in the design and development of tooling fixtures to improve part production, reduce setup time, and streamline job flow. Develop manufacturing setup documentation, detailed work instructions, and work center descriptions for operations in assigned areas. Provide support to the Maintenance Department by developing detailed instructions for preventative and predictive maintenance tasks for equipment in assigned areas. Collaborate with fabricators and other production team members to resolve manufacturing issues and optimize workflow. Apply knowledge of MRP systems and Lean manufacturing principles to support efficient scheduling, material flow, and process improvement. Essential Skills Minimum of 4+ years of CNC programming experience. At least 5+ years of experience as a machinist or CNC programmer using GibbsCam or MasterCam. Hands-on experience programming or machining large and heavy parts, including components with diameters of 70"+ OD. Proficiency with GibbsCam and/or MasterCam for multi-axis mill and lathe programming. Strong understanding of CNC mill and CNC lathe operations, including setup, tooling, and machining parameters. Ability to maintain positive and effective working relationships with machinists and fabricators. Knowledge of MRP (Manufacturing Resource Planning) systems and their application in a production environment. Familiarity with Lean manufacturing principles and practices. Ability to interpret engineering drawings and translate them into accurate machining programs and process documentation. Strong attention to detail and organizational skills for maintaining program databases and documentation. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience with fabricated flow and control valves used in the petroleum and chemical industries is a plus. Any technical education or formal training in machining, manufacturing technology, or related fields is advantageous. Experience developing tooling fixtures and work instructions for complex parts and operations. Exposure to preventative and predictive maintenance practices for manufacturing equipment. Comfort working both in an office environment and on the shop floor alongside production personnel. Why Work Here? This direct hire opportunity offers bonus potential from 6-12% along with a strong benefits package, providing both financial reward and long-term stability. You will work in an environment that values technical expertise, collaboration, and continuous improvement, with opportunities to influence processes and contribute to meaningful production outcomes. The role offers a balance of office and shop floor work, supporting professional growth and hands-on engagement with advanced machining technologies. Work Environment You will split your time between an office setting and the shop floor, working closely with machinists, fabricators, and maintenance personnel around multi-axis CNC mills and lathes, including large equipment capable of machining parts up to 70"+ OD. The standard schedule is 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, with Saturdays as needed, so you should be comfortable with a flexible schedule when production demands require it. The environment is focused on precision manufacturing, use of GibbsCam and MasterCam, and adherence to documented setups, work instructions, and maintenance procedures, with an expectation of professional attire appropriate for both office work and time spent on the shop floor.
