Appraiser For The Board Of Assessors
The Dougherty County Tax & Tag Department is hiring for an Appraiser for the Board of Assessors. The purpose of this position is to appraise real and/or personal property to determine a fair and equitable value for tax purposes. This class works independently, under limited supervision, reporting major activities through periodic meetings.
Essential tasks include:
- Inspecting properties, researching comparable sales and other data to establish current market value.
- Adjusting property values upward to reflect improvements and downwards to reflect deterioration and entering findings into the CAMA appraisal system.
- Responding to questions from property owners and the general public concerning valuations and the appraisal process.
- Presenting information and recommendations concerning property values to the Board of Assessors.
- Entering data for tax appeals, property ownership information, updating parcels, maps, and deed reference sheets as required for new deeds and plats.
- Performing related work as assigned.
Minimum qualifications include:
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
- Two (2) years of experience in appraising or evaluating real estate or closely related work or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
Supplemental information includes:
- Physical demands refer to the requirements for physical exertion and coordination of limb and body movement.
- Performs sedentary work that involves walking or standing some of the time and involves exerting up to 10 pounds of force on a regular and recurring basis or sustained keyboard operations.
- Performs work outdoors in various weather conditions.
- Unavoidable hazards refer to the job conditions that may lead to injury or health hazards even though precautions have been taken.

- Must obtain GA DOR Appraiser I certification within twelve (12) months.
- Must possess and maintain a valid state driver's license with an acceptable driving history.
