Job Description

The Manufacturing Supervisor oversees production activities in the unpack room, ensuring safety, quality, and productivity targets are consistently achieved. This role focuses on managing a team of operators who perform repetitive unpackaging and material handling tasks, while maintaining high standards of performance through servant leadership and continuous improvement. The supervisor is responsible for executing production plans, delivering parts on time with excellent quality, and implementing and optimizing production and equipment management systems in a fast-paced battery cell manufacturing environment.

Responsibilities

• Supervise and coach the team to meet safety, quality, and productivity objectives by enforcing and following standardized work practices.
• Manage and supervise all production activities in the unpack room according to production orders, inventory levels, and established process guidelines.
• Ensure completion of daily and weekly production plans and on-time delivery of all parts from the unpack room to downstream assembly operations with high quality.
• Oversee the formulation, revision, inspection, supervision, control, and implementation of management systems related to production, equipment optimization, safety inspections, environmental protection, and production statistics.
• Lead a team of approximately five operators per shift who perform repetitive tasks such as unpackaging material from automated guided vehicles (AGVs), loading materials onto conveyors, and preparing components for assembly.
• Drive personal and team performance by setting clear expectations, monitoring results, and holding yourself and your team to high performance standards through servant leadership.
• Build strong interpersonal relationships with team members and foster a positive, supportive work environment that enables teams to successfully complete their assigned responsibilities and tasks.
• Support Kaizen and continuous improvement initiatives by identifying opportunities for process enhancement and coaching problem resolution at the lowest possible level.
• Promote and apply a Positive Employee Relations (PER) approach when addressing issues, resolving conflicts, and engaging with team members.
• Collaborate with other supervisors and production staff to coordinate schedules, manage staffing needs, and ensure smooth operational flow across shifts.
• Monitor production data and statistics to identify trends, address bottlenecks, and support decisions that improve manufacturing efficiency and quality.
• Ensure compliance with safety, environmental, and operational policies and procedures throughout the unpack room and associated production areas.

Essential Skills

• Minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent.
• At least 2+ years of team management experience overseeing 10 or more people.
• At least 2+ years of manufacturing supervisory experience in automotive or battery cell production environments.
• Strong production supervision skills with the ability to manage daily operations in a manufacturing setting.
• Demonstrated supervisory and management skills, including performance management, coaching, and team development.
• Experience in manufacturing operations, particularly in production, assembly, and quality-focused environments.
• Familiarity with automotive manufacturing and/or battery cell manufacturing processes.
• Ability to support and drive continuous improvement and lean manufacturing practices.
• Comfortable learning and working with new technologies, including automated guided vehicles (AGVs) and conveyor-based material handling systems.
• Ability to build strong interpersonal relationships and maintain positive employee relations.
• Strong focus on safety, quality, and productivity, with the ability to follow and enforce standardized work.
• Effective communication skills for interacting with operators, peers, and leadership across shifts.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Associate’s degree or higher in a relevant field is preferred.
• Approximately 2 years of manufacturing supervisory experience beyond the minimum requirements is preferred.
• Approximately 2 years of experience in a battery cell manufacturing environment is preferred.
• Experience with lean manufacturing and process improvement methodologies.
• Extensive experience in quality-focused manufacturing, with an understanding of production and quality metrics.
• Ability to work rotating 12-hour shifts and adapt to changing production demands.
• Experience working with continuous improvement initiatives such as Kaizen.
• Comfort with data-driven decision-making using production statistics and performance indicators.

Work Environment

The role is based in a new, multi-billion-dollar battery manufacturing facility within a large industrial campus dedicated to jobs, opportunities, and recreation. The plant is designed to produce lithium iron phosphate (LFP) cells for grid-scale energy storage alongside midsize electric trucks, with an annual production capacity targeted at 20 gigawatt-hours of battery output. The facility spans hundreds of acres and includes substantial cell and pack buildings with supporting structures, housing a growing workforce with a long-term employment target in the thousands. Supervisors initially follow a training schedule on day shifts (approximately Monday through Thursday in the first week, then Monday through Friday in the second week, 6:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.), before transitioning to rotating 12-hour shifts starting around the third week. One supervisor schedule pattern consists of four days on and three days off over a two-week cycle, while the complementary schedule consists of three days on and four days off over a two-week cycle, with shifts typically running from 6:00 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. The work involves overseeing operators who perform repetitive tasks such as unpackaging materials from automated guided vehicles (AGVs), loading components onto conveyors, and supporting assembly operations in a high-tech, fast-paced environment focused on safety, quality, and efficiency. Dress code expectations align with a typical manufacturing setting, where appropriate work attire and any required personal protective equipment are worn to maintain safety and compliance on the production floor.

This is a Contract position based out of Marshall, MI.

The pay range for this position is $33.00 - $33.00/hr.
