Community Engagement Coordinator, Institute of EnvironmentalHealth Sciences (IEHS) Wayne State University is searching for an experienced Community Engagement Coordinator, Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (IEHS) at its Detroit campus location. Position Purpose The Community Engagement Coordinator supports the mission of the Community Engagement Core (CEC) of the “Center for Urban Responsesto Environmental Stressors (CURES P30ES036084)” National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS), Environmental Health Sciences Core Center (EHSCC) by coordinating CURES Community Advisory Board (CAB) activities, community events focused on improving environmental and public health, focus groups and community outreach activities, and by fostering communications through a variety of community outreach platforms including social media, email and a monthly CEC newsletter. As delineated in the CURES grant, the successful candidate will build and maintain relationships with NIEHS program officers specializing in community engagement, with CEC coordinators in other EHSCCs, with local community partners, with CURES CAB members, and other stakeholders. The CURES CEC coordinator helps to connect CURES researchers with community leaders and members of the grass roots community to stimulate multi‑directional discussions on environmental health and safety. The Community Engagement Coordinator plans and supports meetings, events, and engagement activities; manages evaluation and reporting processes; maintains contact and communication systems; and collaborates with staff, faculty, and community partners to advance knowledge through community‑engaged research and through multi‑directional communications that reflect the environmental health concerns that are voiced and prioritized by the community. This position will report to the Assistant Professor, Institute of Gerontology. Essential Functions Plan, organize, schedule, and document meetings for the community engagement team, Community Advisory Board (CAB), and other core meetings, including agendas, calendar invitations, reminders, and meeting notes; build and maintain relationships with community partners, CAB members, and other stakeholders through regular communication and follow‑up. Support the community engagement team, Community Advisory Board (CAB), and co‑chairs by completing assigned administrative, and organizational tasks that advance the CURES mission; maintain records, contact databases, listservs, and other systems related to community engagement activities. Plan, organize, schedule, and implement evaluation and data‑collection efforts using surveys, interviews, and other social‑science research methods for community‑academic collaborations, Community Advisory Board (CAB) engagement, and center events; maintain related records, reporting systems, and data‑tracking processes. Work with other professional staff and center members on project‑based tasks associated with CURES outreach, community engagement, communications, and education efforts; manage newsletters, social media, fact sheets, and other communication materials. Plan, organize, schedule, and facilitate meetings, events, presentations, and other activities associated with community‑based research, recruitment, outreach, advocacy, and education efforts; represent the CURES center at community meetings, outreach events, and collaborative planning activities. Contribute to the annual CURES progress report as directed, attend the national annual EHSCC core center meeting. Perform other related tasks assigned in support of center operations, partnerships, events, and special projects. Perform other related duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications Education Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with a concentration in Public health, social sciences, communication, education, nonprofit management, community development, public administration, public policy, or related field. Experience Intermediate (3 to 4 years’ job‑related experience). Experience with program evaluation in community‑based, public health, or academic settings, including data collection, analysis, reporting, and use of tools such as Qualtrics or similar platforms. Familiarity with community engagement, community organizing, or community‑based participatory research (CBPR) principles and/or other participatory principles and evaluation approaches. Experience supporting or conducting program evaluation activities, including development or administration of surveys, interviews, or other data collection methods; maintaining evaluation records; and summarizing findings for reports, presentations, or planning purposes. Experience with or ability to learn survey, evaluation, and database platforms, as well as common office, spreadsheet, email‑marketing, virtual meeting software, and data management systems (e.g., Qualtrics). Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge of community engagement, outreach, and partnership‑building practices, especially in community‑based, academic, nonprofit, or public health settings. Strong organizational and project coordination skills, including the ability to manage multiple priorities, schedules, events, and deadlines with attention to detail. Demonstrated commitment to working respectfully with diverse communities and supporting equity‑focused, community‑engaged work. Strong written and verbal communication skills, including meeting facilitation, professional correspondence, public speaking, community education, and preparation of newsletters, fact sheets, or other outreach materials. Ability to build, maintain, and document relationships with community partners, Community Advisory Board members, faculty, staff, and other stakeholders. Ability to plan, coordinate, and document meetings, events, and community engagement activities, including agendas, notes, follow‑up, and logistics. Ability to maintain records, contact databases, listservs, and reporting systems and to track participation, evaluation, and outreach metrics accurately. Ability to work independently and collaboratively, exercise sound judgment, solve problems, adapt to changing priorities, and maintain data confidentiality and professionalism. Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends and travel as needed for meetings, events, and outreach activities.
