Housekeeping Supervisor

La Jolla Beach & Tennis Club (LJBTC) Inc. is a family‑owned resort operating a 21‑acre beachside property, including the 90‑room club, the 128‑room hotel and the award‑winning Marine Room restaurant. The resort offers championship tennis courts, golf, swimming, dining, and private beach access. Position Overview Housekeeping Assistant – Supports the Housekeeping Manager in the direction and coordination of beach club housekeeping, public area, and laundry operations. Hourly rate: $25.50. Responsibilities Assist in maintaining an organized and efficient housekeeping, public area and laundry operations. Prepare inventory, productivity schedules and other reports as requested. Inspect rooms and public areas for cleanliness and compliance with company standards. Schedule work assignments for housekeeping and laundry staff. Maintain familiarity with cleaning and laundry equipment location, operation and repair. Communicate with Front Office to track guest assistance requests, delegate tasks, and provide timely completion updates. Complete inventories and purchase orders for guest rooms and supplies. Stay abreast of current industry trends and technology. Train staff on position requirements, policies and procedures. Maintain a room record of principal goods (beds, appliances, carpets) in rooms. Complete payroll and attendance records, and schedule paid time off. Recommend room improvements and special repairs, and communicate needed repairs to Engineering. Assist with special cleaning projects. Act as primary department contact in the absence of the Housekeeping Manager. Conduct inspections to ensure compliance with company signature standards and document findings. Monitor service and teamwork, following up with staff as needed. Maintain a presence in the housekeeping department to answer phones and greet visitors. Ensure staff follow safety rules, and take corrective action to improve safety. Keep supervisor promptly informed of all problems and matters of significance. Be available to work any shift, including holidays and weekends. Drive a company vehicle and hold a valid California Driver’s License. Supervisory Responsibilities Supervise employees in housekeeping and laundry units. Overall direction, coordination and evaluation of these units. Plan, assign and direct work; appraise performance; reward and discipline employees. Address complaints and resolve problems. Qualifications and Requirements Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) from a four‑year college or university; or one to two years related experience/training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business‑related information and technical procedures. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Effective presentation and communication skills with managers, clients, customers, and the general public. Fluent in Spanish (read, speak, write). Mathematical knowledge – application of fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations. Reasoning ability – solve practical problems and interpret instructions in written, oral, diagrammatic, or schedule form. Physical demand: talk/ hear, walk, use hands for handling objects, occasionally stand, sit, reach, climb, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl; lift up to 10lb regularly, up to 25lb occasionally; visual acuity requirements. Work environment: occasional exposure to moving mechanical parts, outdoor weather conditions, wet/humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, and risk of electrical shock; moderate to loud noise.
