Summary This position is located at the Carl Nunziato VA Clinic (Outpatient Clinic) in Youngstown, OH. Responsibilities VA Careers - Licensed Practical Nurse: Total Rewards of a Allied Health Professional Duties include, but are not limited to: Provides safe, timely, and patient-centered clinical support through rooming, vital signs, medication reconciliation, specimen collection, and accurate documentation while observing and reporting changes in patient condition. Assists providers with specialty-specific procedures (e.g., wound care, splinting/orthopedic support, dermatology procedures, ENT scope setup, ophthalmology screenings, podiatry care tasks) following established sterile, infection- control, and safety protocols Demonstrates independent workflow management within scope by prioritizing patient care needs, coordinating clinic flow, and effectively communicating patient status and concerns to Registered Nurses, providers, and interdisciplinary team members. Maintains clinic readiness and compliance by ensuring rooms, instruments, and specialty equipment are clean, stocked, and safe; adheres to infection-control, environmental safety, and regulatory standards. Supports patient education and follow-up by reinforcing provider instructions, completing secure messages and telephone encounters within scope, and promoting continuity of care across multi-specialty surgical clinics. Examples of experience include proficiency in initiating, performing and completing assigned duties in providing care to variable patient populations, knowledge and ability to appropriately carry out assigned patient care based on patients' conditions; selecting the appropriate order and sequence of procedures and treatments; completed work only needs a general review by a registered nurse or physician; preparing and administering prescribed medications (oral, topical, subcutaneous, intramuscular and/or intravenous); recognizing urgent or emergent patient care situations, seeking assistance of the RN and/or MD/DO, and initiating appropriate emergency interventions as directed; and performing duties for complex diagnostic tests and/or specialized practices or procedures. Physical Requirements: This clinical position includes a level of physicality normally associated with direct patient care duties performed by nurses for potentially long periods of time. This may include walking, standing, stooping, bending, sitting, reaching, pushing, pulling and navigating stairs.
