Physical Therapy Technician Job Title: Physical Therapy Technician Position Status: Full Time. Department: Physical/Occupational Therapy. Exempt Status: Nonexempt. Reports To: Rehab Director. Supervises: N/A. Job Summary Physical Therapy Technician providing support to both physical therapists and occupational therapists in delivering patient-centered rehabilitation. Assists with preparing treatment areas, guiding patients through prescribed exercises and functional activities, and ensuring a safe, clean, and organized clinical environment. Supports patients in improving mobility, strength, and independence with daily living tasks while maintaining accurate documentation and collaborating with the therapy team to ensure efficient clinic operations. Essential Functions Assist therapists with patient flow in and out of clinic Starting patients Assisting with moving patients through exercises, ice and e-stim donning and doffing Orthotics fitting and distribution – documentation required Make copies of exercise sheets and keep necessary PT forms stocked Arrange exercise items neatly when patients have finished using them Keep the therapy department clean and organized Daily responsibilities: straighten rooms, clean beds after each use, keep up with laundry, clean equipment, clean stim pads, check soap dispensers, fill Cryo-cuffs every morning, empty at end of day, turn off equipment, set out hot pack pads to dry, wash hot pack pads, keep hydrocollators clean, defrost freezer, keep suture removal toolbox clean, clean splint making machine, wash and dry laundry, refill ultrasound gel, replace drinking cups, replace towel rolls, replace old therabands, and other miscellaneous cleaning duties Weekly responsibilities: fill ultrasound gel, refill disinfectant bottles, check therabands, assist with biohazard disposal, change cleaning cloths, check rooms and carts for wound care supplies, order supplies, notify DME dept to order back braces as needed Monthly tasks: regular scheduled cleaning of modality equipment Core Competences Responsible for promoting the Standards of Excellence for Orthopedic Specialists while demonstrating courteous and cooperative behavior toward patients, visitors, volunteers, peers and physicians. Maintains a neat and orderly work environment, demonstrates ability to organize and prioritize work during heavy workload situations to expedite patient care. Maintain strictest confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA compliance. Perform quality work within deadlines with or without direct supervision Work effectively as a team contributor on all assignments Work independently while understanding the need to communicate and coordinate work efforts with other employees and organizations Minimum Requirements High school diploma or GED Positive attitude and ability to build rapport with patients Communicate well with others Essential Physical Functions Work demands prolonged periods of sitting, walking, standing, bending, occasional walking up and down stairs, overhead lifting, carrying cumbersome items such as supplies (up to 20 pounds), working the equipment, and physical stress (90-100% sitting and walking) Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patients at times; standing and walking for extensive periods of time Manual dexterity sufficient to operate keyboard and other office equipment as necessary Ability to view computer screens for long periods of time Equipment Used Computer, scanner, printer, photocopier, facsimile, telephone Ability to operate a washer and dryer Hot and cold modalities and gym equipment Additional Comments Nothing in this job description restricts management’s right to assign or reassign duties and responsibilities to this job at any time.
