The Assistant Principal assists the Principal in providing instructional leadership, supporting school operations, and promoting a safe, positive, and student-centered learning environment. Responsibilities include supporting student achievement, attendance, discipline, curriculum implementation, staff supervision, school culture, and daily operations. The Assistant Principal works collaboratively with students, staff, families, and the community to support equitable educational opportunities, continuous school improvement, and successful student outcomes.
Qualifications
Possess Delaware School Principal certification. Minimum of five (5) years of successful teaching experience required, high school (grades 9-12) teaching experience preferred. Proven ability to serve as an effective instructional leader through collaboration, data-informed decision making, and support of teaching and learning. Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills with the ability to build positive relationships with students, staff, families, and the community.
Performance Responsibilities
Work collaboratively, professionally, and productively with school and district leadership teams to support educational programming, student services, and operational effectiveness in meeting the needs of students, families, and the school community. Support the Principal in ensuring school operations align with Board policies, district procedures, state regulations, and mandated requirements. Provide leadership and support in the areas of student attendance, student discipline, academic performance, school culture, and instructional improvement. Monitor and analyze student achievement data, assessment results, attendance trends, graduation indicators, and behavioral data to support school improvement efforts and student success outcomes. Support curriculum implementation, instructional best practices, and data-driven decision making to improve teaching and learning at the high school level. Possess knowledge of best practices, regulations, and policies necessary to support special education students, compliance requirements, and the development and implementation of student IEPs. Support and communicate a shared vision for learning that promotes student achievement, equity, accountability, and continuous school improvement. Demonstrate cultural competence and a commitment to equitable practices to ensure all students have access to educational opportunities, programs, and extracurricular activities. Maintain visibility throughout the school day, at school events, and within the community while actively supporting a positive and safe school environment. Attend, supervise, and support extracurricular, co-curricular, and athletic activities as assigned. Foster and maintain positive professional relationships with students, staff, families, community members, and district stakeholders. Provide leadership for school improvement initiatives, organizational change efforts, and strategic planning aligned to district and school goals. Communicate clearly, effectively, and professionally with students, families, staff, administrators, and the Milford community. Assist in preparing, practicing, and implementing emergency preparedness and school safety procedures. Collaborate with support personnel to ensure effective maintenance, custodial, transportation, food service, and operational support systems. Promote and maintain a safe, orderly, inclusive, and student-centered learning environment that supports positive student behavior and engagement. Work collaboratively with adjacent Milford Central Academy administration and staff to support a safe, organized, and unified campus environment. Maintain a strong focus on educational best practices, student achievement, postsecondary readiness, and indicators associated with secondary student success. Assist in the preparation and maintenance of reports, records, schedules, compliance documentation, and other required materials in a timely and accurate manner. Maintain high standards of student conduct and enforce discipline in accordance with Board policy, due process, and student rights. Support and promote the implementation of restorative practices to strengthen student accountability, relationships, and positive school culture. Assist with the hiring, supervision, observation, coaching, professional growth, and evaluation of staff to support continuous improvement. Assist in the development and management of the master schedule and support student scheduling processes and course placement decisions. Adhere to Board policies, district regulations, and administrative directives while responding to requests in a timely, accurate, and professional manner. Perform all other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Principal or district administration.
Special Requirements: Requirement to work beyond a 40-hour week, including evening and weekend meetings and events. Ability to respond to school and District emergencies at any time.
Terms of Employment: Twelve (12) month full-time employee. Salary: Established by the Board of Education. Evaluation: Performance will be evaluated annually using the state approved system.
