About the Position

Job Title: RN Surgical Specialty Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: Surgical Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Days Hours per Shift: 36 Experience: 1 year of stepdown/PCU experience required. Acute care surgical floor experience preferred. License: Current RN License issued by the Oklahoma State Board of Nursing or a current multistate compact RN License. Certifications: Current Basic Life Support issued by the American Heart Association. Must-Have: Knowledge of professional nursing theory, practices, techniques, and procedures. Ability to organize, plan, coordinate, and evaluate nursing services and apply nursing techniques. Good verbal and written communication skills. Ability to respond effectively to the cultural and language needs of patients and visitors. Some computer skills. Description: Under general supervision, provides nursing care in a hospital to patients with health problems ranging from simple to complex. Assumes responsibility for an assigned group of patients. Documents patient responses to nursing interventions and prescribed medical treatments. Notes all changes in physician orders on assigned patients. Assists physician in the examination of patients and in performing minor diagnostic procedures and treatments. Obtains and monitors physiological data of patients. Observes physiological manifestations of patients and intervenes when necessary. Administers medication as prescribed. Initiates, regulates, and monitors intravenous infusions and blood products. Delivers patient care competently. Interacts with family and patients in sharing care plans during hospitalization and at discharge. Informs patients and families of hospital procedures. Makes referrals regarding patient care needs to appropriate personnel. Delegates tasks to support staff. Performs other duties as assigned. This unit cares for patients pre or post-surgically. Experience with new drains, wounds, tracheostomies, ostomies, and nasogastric tubes is needed. Some patients may require stepdown care. Patient ratios are 5:1 for surgical patients and 3:1 for stepdown area.
