Cedars International Academy, Pre‑K3‑12th Grade – Austin, Texas Starting Date: Aug 5, 2026 Job Description Cedars International Academy A Teacher Incentive Allotment (TIA) District Job Title: Permanent Substitute Teacher Reports to: Principal(s) Working Days: 188 Date Revised: 6/2026 Dept./School: All Campuses Wage/Hour Status: Exempt, Does not qualify for Teacher Retention Allotment Primary Purpose A full‑time, campus‑based educator who ensures continuity of student learning. Report to the same school every day to cover absent teachers across various grade levels and subjects. Provide students with appropriate and innovative learning activities and experiences in the core academic subject area assigned that challenge students with rigorous, authentic, and engaging learning experiences designed to help them fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth. Enable students to develop competencies and skills to function successfully in society. When not actively covering a class, the incumbent will provide vital support to administrative teams. Qualifications Education/Certification Education: Minimum of 60 college credit hours or an Associate's degree; a Bachelor's degree in education is preferred. Experience: Prior classroom, student teaching, or general substitute experience is highly preferred. Special Knowledge/Skills General knowledge of curriculum and instruction Project‑Based Learning design and implementation Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills Ability to use computers, Chromebook, printer, and Google Suite of products (Google Sheets, Drive, Docs, Zoom) Core Responsibilities Instructional Delivery: Execute pre‑written lesson plans, assign homework, and ensure a seamless day‑to‑day learning experience. Classroom Management: Uphold behavioral expectations, implement school‑wide discipline policies, and maintain a safe, engaging environment. Adaptability: Transition quickly between different subjects, age groups, and special education needs as staffing needs fluctuate. Administrative Duties: Take daily attendance, grade student assignments, and communicate student progress with relevant faculty. Campus Supervision: Assist with school operations, such as monitoring hallways, lunchrooms, and arrival/dismissal. Long‑Term Coverage: Step into longer absences (e.g., maternity or medical leave) by developing lesson plans, assessing student performance, and communicating with parents. Flexibility & Agility: Capable of adjusting to changes in the daily schedule. Communication: Ability to collaborate with administrators, faculty, parents, and students clearly and professionally. De‑escalation: Capacity to manage classroom disruptions and maintain a professional demeanor under stress. Student Growth and Development Help students analyze and improve study methods and habits. Conduct assessment of student achievement through formal and informal testing. Assume responsibility for extracurricular activities as assigned; sponsor outside activities approved by the campus principal. Be a positive role model for students and support the mission of the school district. Classroom Management and Organization Create a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students. Manage student behavior in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct and the Student Handbook. Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities. Communication Establish and maintain open communication by conducting conferences with parents, students, principals, and teachers. Maintain a professional relationship with colleagues, students, parents, and community members. Use effective communication skills to present information accurately and clearly. Professional Growth and Development Participate in staff development activities to improve job‑related skills. Keep informed of and comply with state, district, and school regulations and policies for classroom teachers. Compile, maintain, and file all physical and computerized reports, records, and other documents required. Attend and participate in faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as required. Supervisory Responsibilities Supervise assigned teacher aide(s). Working Conditions Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors: Maintain emotional control under stress. Frequent standing, stooping, bending, pulling, and pushing. Move small stacks of textbooks, media equipment, desks, and other classroom equipment.
