Key Responsibilities of the Pharmacist

• Accept and dispense prescription medications
• Monitor patient medication compliance and over-usage patterns
• Ensure that the supply of medicines is within the law
• Ensure that the medicines prescribed to patients are suitable
• Accurately maintain confidential records of all patients
• Properly manage patient records and pharmacy files
• Advise patients about medicines, including usage and reactions
• Provide consultation on medications for storage, dosage, and side effects
• Offer services such as smoking cessation and cholesterol management
• Educate patients on proper handling of medical devices
• Compound medications and prepare sterile solutions
• Supervise pharmacy staff including technicians and clerks
• Maintain inventory on pharmaceutical and medical supplies
• Identify and communicate drug-related problems with healthcare practitioners
• Collaborate with physicians and other healthcare professionals

Requirements of the Pharmacist

• Doctor of Pharmacy degree required
• Licensed by the state pharmacy board
