Job Description: Primary Responsibility Under the direction of the Recreation and Events Coordinator, the Recreation Assistant is responsible for providing customer service to the Field House members, students and customers during daily operations of the Field House Recreation Center. This position will provide direction to customers regarding access, memberships, liability waivers, payments and proper use of gym equipment. The Recreation Assistant is also responsible for monitoring the climbing wall, weight room, cardio deck, indoor track and gym floor areas to help ensure the safety of patrons, cleaning and upkeep of equipment, and enforcing facility policies. *This is a part-time position which is limited to 28 hours per CMC’s workweek. CMC’s workweek is Saturday through Friday. Pre-requisites for Position (Qualifications Standards) Education and experience sufficient to meet the rigors of the position. Examples include a high school diploma/GED and 6 months of related experience or equivalent education and experience that will provide the necessary knowledge, skill, and abilities to perform the functions of the position. CPR and First Aid Certification are required but can be acquired within 3 months of employment. A Wilderness First Aid/Wilderness First Responder Certification or higher is also accepted. Special Skills or abilities directly applicable to the position be a self-directed individual with a strong work ethic; possess a positive attitude, be competent to make important decisions and work well with others. Work independently towards established goals and deadlines. Maintain confidentiality, discretion, and professionalism. Ability to enforce Field House policies (i.e. not being afraid to approach a member for an infraction). Ability and willingness to acquire basic skills and knowledge of all areas of the Field House including the Climbing Wall. The hiring pay rate is $22.09 per hour. Benefits include retirement contribution, annual and sick time, mental health resources, and tuition benefit. CMC utilizes a wage progression compensation model that accounts for a candidate’s skill and experience. Although a hiring rate is listed, this will be set commensurate with the successful candidate’s qualifications and in compliance with the Equal Pay for Equal Work Act. Position anticipated to close on July 10, 2026 or until filled. Minimum Qualifications: Essential Duties Consistently uphold all Field House policies and procedures providing a safe and inclusive environment for patrons. Open and close the Field House/Climbing Wall on a daily basis ensuring safety inspections and cleaning duties are completed as assigned. Provide exceptional customer service at all times. Greet customers courteously, observe Field House ID policy, scan IDs, verify photos to patrons’ face, and be proactive in policy enforcement. Work in tandem with Climbing Wall staff to ensure accurate tracking of and communication about member climbing certifications. Remain visible and approachable to customer questions, concerns, and complaints. Be knowledgeable about Field House recreation/fitness programs and services such as: membership sales, activity registrations, renting space or equipment, etc. Answer and direct customer inquiries, phone calls, emails, etc. Responsibly handle cash, process credit cards, and maintain accurate membership information according to Field House procedures. Maintain clean appearance of lobby and Field House areas by completing all required cleaning tasks during shift, including facility cleaning, hygiene product restock in restrooms and locker rooms, facility trash collection, and regular cleaning of fitness machines. Coordinate the maintenance of climbing equipment, including but not limited to, organization, cleaning, storing, and repairing equipment. Respond to incidents, injuries, and inappropriate behavior and report to supervisor accordingly. Understand and be able to follow the Emergency Action Plan response. Attend all staff training sessions, meetings, in-services, and shifts as scheduled. Assist with the set-up, clean-up, and supervision of special events that take place at the Field House Consistently strive to give and receive feedback with co-workers and supervisor. Other duties as assigned by the Recreation and Events Coordinator. Supervision Received This position reports to the Recreation and Events Coordinator Supervisory Responsibility This position has no supervisory responsibility. Special Conditions of Employment Successful completion of a background check including a motor vehicles records report required. Incumbents in this position will adhere to all safety and compliance policies of Colorado Mountain College while performing all duties assigned. Travel on occasion for department meetings or individual training. Working Conditions This position requires constant sitting, occasional walking, and standing; occasional handling objects, pushing/pulling; frequent reaching with hands/arms, and use of finger movements; occasional lifting, carrying, pushing or pulling objects up to 50 lbs. Constant written and oral communication and the ability to reason and analyze and perform calculations occasionally. Work is performed using a computer and standard office equipment daily.
