Assistant Controller

A growing retail organization is seeking an Assistant Controller to join their team! About the Role The Assistant Controller is responsible for the integrity, accuracy, and timeliness of the company's financial reporting and accounting operations. This role oversees the monthly close process, financial statements, internal controls, and accounting policies — while partnering closely with senior leadership to support growth initiatives, external audits, and strategic priorities. Responsibilities Own the monthly, quarterly, and annual close process, ensuring timely and accurate financial statements Prepare and review balance sheet reconciliations and ensure prompt resolution of reconciling items Ensure consistency and accuracy across multi-entity and intercompany reporting Review journal entries and estimates for U.S. GAAP compliance, including insurance reserves, prepaids, accruals, inventory, and fixed assets Accounting & Payroll Operations Oversee AP, AR, cash management, and GL activities Manage biweekly payroll processing for all restaurants (weekly for Rhode Island locations) Ensure proper accounting for leases, debt, prepaids, accruals, equity, and complex transactions Identify opportunities for process improvement and implement efficient, streamlined accounting workflows Maintain and enforce accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls Support system implementations, upgrades, and process automation initiatives Ensure occupancy obligations are accurately recorded and paid on time per lease agreements, including CAM charges, percentage rent calculations, and real estate taxes Audit, Tax & Compliance Support the Controller during the annual external audit Collaborate with external tax advisors on federal, state, and local filings Ensure compliance with applicable regulatory and statutory requirements Support the insurance renewal process, including coordination with brokers and relevant stakeholders Leadership & Business Partnership Manage and develop a team of one Accountant and one Payroll Manager, providing clear expectations and accountability Actively manage the outsourced accounting firm to ensure timely execution, data accuracy, and issue resolution Identify financial risks, operational opportunities, and areas for ongoing process improvement #J-18808-Ljbffr
