Mechanic Position

West Pierce Fire & Rescue (WPFR) is hiring a Mechanic with an anticipated start date by August 1. Mechanics provide general repair and maintenance on all district vehicles, apparatus, vessels and equipment. This is a great opportunity to join a team of four other professionals dedicated to maintaining our fleet. The Fleet Maintenance shop is in Lakewood, WA. WPFR provides a variety of schedule options, an excellent benefits package, pay incentive opportunities and generous paid leave. This is a non-exempt (overtime eligible) position, represented by IAFF Local 1488 - Maintenance Bargaining Unit. Please see the Benefits tab for details from the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA). The 2026 monthly base salary range of $8,043 to $8,989 depends on experience. The CBA provides for lateral entry. Lateral employees are paid one pay grade below what their experience would indicate. The 2026 monthly base salaries are: $8,043 (0-6 months) $8,516 (7-12 months) $8,989 (13-24 months) An employee with more than 4 years of experience shall move to the top pay grade of $9,462 after successful completion of 6 months. The conditional offer of employment is subject to successful completion of a criminal background investigation, driving abstract review and medical examination with drug screening (the provider has locations in Gig Harbor and Auburn). WPFR pays all costs associated with conditions. Reference(s) will be requested once conditions are completed. If applicable, must have the ability to obtain a Commercial Driver's License within 6 months of hire. New employees serve on a probationary period for 12 months following hire date.
