Engineering Intern

Padre Dam Municipal Water District is seeking a motivated, curious, and hardworking Engineering Intern to join our team. This is an opportunity for students pursuing a career in engineering to gain hands‑on experience, learn from experienced professionals, and contribute to projects that support essential water, wastewater, and recycled water services for our community. Engineering Department The Engineering Department comprises two divisions: Development Services and Capital Improvement Projects (CIP). The Development Services Division reviews development plans and assists developers, engineers, and property owners throughout approval and installation of new water, sewer, and recycled water facilities. The CIP Division is responsible for the planning, design, and construction of Padre Dam's capital projects, managing infrastructure projects efficiently and effectively with budget and schedule objectives. Responsibilities Perform and support routine technical engineering tasks related to the Development Services and CIP Divisions. Research information for water, recycled water, and sewer projects, including customer inquiries about water and sewer service applications, easement checks, construction meter usage, drafting by hand or using District software, monitoring private development applications, and preliminary engineering support for CIP staff. Knowledge Required Basic knowledge of mathematical concepts, including Algebra, Analytical Geometry, and Trigonometry. Ability to read and interpret geographical data. Computer skills using Microsoft Office Software on a Windows Operating System. Skills Required Organizational skills. Time‑management skills. Ability to plan, coordinate, and organize work to meet deadlines. Good verbal and written communication skills. Ability to be tactful and professional with other agencies, contractors and the public as applicable. Training / Experience Currently pursuing a degree in engineering or a related field. High School Diploma or GED. AutoCAD, GIS, Adobe and BlueBeam preferred. Licensing Required Valid California Driver’s license. Schedule & Interview Interview will take place early to mid July 2026. The internship schedule: Monday‑Friday, 12‑18 hours per week between 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. Start mid to late July 2026, duration approximately 6‑12 months.
