Para-educator

Looking to fill district para positions working with a variety of students with special needs including emotional, academic and physical disabilities. Location: Indian Creek Elementary School, Shabbona IL.

Qualifications:

• Current state approved para and NCLB certificate
• Must be a high school graduate and pass the ETS Para Assessment or have an Associate Degree or 60 hours of college experience
• Level of professionalism, such as proper handling of confidential information
• Prior para-educator experience preferred

Duties:

• Works with an individual student or small groups of students to reinforce learning of material or skills
• Assists the teacher in devising and implementing special strategies for reinforcing material or skills based on best practice strategies
• Assists the teacher in providing behavioral support on an individual, small group, and/or classroom; including the implementation of behavioral interventions and gathering of data
• Operates and cares for equipment used in the building/classroom for instructional purposes
• Helps students master equipment or instructional materials assigned by the teacher
• Assists with the supervision of students during emergency drills, assemblies, lunch, recess and field trips
• Assists with large group activities such as drill work, reading aloud and storytelling
• Reads to students, listens to students read and participates in other forms of oral communication with students
• Assists students in study hall, library or media center
• Assists students with personal care, when necessary
• Assists students with personal care and adapted daily living skills when necessary
• Checks notebooks, corrects papers and supervises testing
• Checks and records attendance, as directed
• Assists with lunch, snack and cleanup routines
• Alerts the classroom teacher to any problem or special information about an individual student
• Participates in professional development training programs
• Administers, scores and records achievement, CBM and diagnostic tests
• Other duties as assigned by teacher or administrator
