Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Ability to perform work involving physical strength and endurance
• Ability to work from a ladder or scaffolding
• Ability to recognize and use tools related to the locksmith trade
• At least three (3) years of progressive responsible experience as a locksmith
• Ability to plan and organize details of assignments, read and understand blueprints, diagrams and manuals
• Knowledge of the Standard Building Codes as it pertains to general locksmithing
• Journeyman level skill in the use of the tools, materials, and equipment of the locksmith trade
• Holds a valid Florida driver's license

Preferred Qualifications:

• Completion of a technical program related to the trade at a vocational school, college, military training program, or have completed an apprenticeship program

Performance Responsibilities:

1. Observes all safe work practices when using tools, equipment, and chemicals.
2. Works effectively with, cooperates with, and supports other employees.
3. Performs work from official work request.
4. Maintains a supply of generally used materials on the school board vehicle.
5. Maintains and takes proper care of school board tools and equipment.
6. Keeps records as to maintenance performed from each work request.
7. Recommends to supervisor materials to be used.
8. Installs, adjusts, changes and repairs locks and cuts new and duplicate keys for security.
9. Installs, changes and repairs electronic hardware, door closures, all hardware and locks.
10. Advises district personnel on security/safety measures related to lock/hardware.
11. Opens locked doors, file cabinets, drawers, and related for which there are no keys, using tools of the locksmith trade.
12. Answers school security emergency calls for building and room access during hours and after hours as needed.
13. Maintains building egress systems to include locks, locking devices and associated hardware, doors, panic bars, dogging devices and emergency equipment to ensure proper function of emergency exits.
14. Maintains and updates inventory or district keys and key replacement log manual.
15. Tracks keys that need replacement and notifies the supervisor of continuous replacement problems.
16. Assists in carpentry projects including hanging doors, setting hinges and installing locks.
17. Attends formal training sessions.
18. Advises maintenance manager if a work order or repair should be performed by outside contractors based on scope of work, materials required, or personal experience.
19. Performs other job-related functions as may be assigned.
