Defense Programmer
This position will write and optimize CNC programs for various turning and milling machines including multi-axis lathes using Esprit programming software. Develop the overall programming approach for CNC machinery; establish procedures for setup and operation of machine; as well as for programming. Recommendation of design changes to facilitate optimized CNC machining. Establishment of measured work rates for machining operations either from standard data or by time-study.
Principal activities include developing CNC programs based on processes laid out by manufacturing engineer, creating 3D models using Solid Works software, helping develop processes with operators and manufacturing engineers, reading and understanding GD&T requirements on engineering drawings, identifying program optimization opportunities in current machine programs, knowledge of cutting tool geometries, coatings, and application, utilizing databases to create tool lists, part routings, and update established programs, and creating and compiling necessary documents to aid setting up machines.
Candidate requirements include effective verbal and written communication skills, ability to work effectively with others and be a participative team player, ability to work with mathematical concepts such as fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry, and ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations. Education & experience include a high school diploma or GED required, minimum 3 years' experience programming, CAM experience required, use of ESPRIT programming software and Solid Works software a plus.
