The Skagit Table is a scratch kitchen and catering company focused on locally sourced, seasonal food and genuine hospitality. We operate at a high level of organization, accountability, and care for our food, our team, and our community.

Expected hours: 12-24 hours per week

We’re a small, ingredient-driven café and kitchen in Mount Vernon looking for a hands-on, thoughtful Prep Cook who genuinely enjoys making food from scratch and understands that good food takes time, care, and strong systems.

This role is at the heart of what we do. Our menu is built on locally sourced ingredients, traditional cooking methods, and real fats —no shortcuts, no soy, no vegetable oils. If you find satisfaction in peeling a case of local onions, turning bones into rich broth, or making mayo from scratch, you’ll fit right in.

This is not a line cook role—it’s focused on bulk prep, foundational cooking, and supporting a constantly evolving kitchen that includes cafe service, specials, catering, farmers markets, and occasional cooking classes.

This is a part-time position.

You like working with your hands and take pride in doing things the right way—even when it’s repetitive or physical. You’re adaptable, reliable, and comfortable working independently once trained. You care about food quality, enjoy learning, and understand that prep is the backbone of a strong kitchen.

You’re flexible, steady on your feet, and not afraid of a long prep list—or a sink full of dishes.

Scratch Prep & Production

• Prepare large-scale, from-scratch foods using traditional methods
• Keep us stocked of base ingredients- tallow, mayo, salad dressings, shredded cheese, minced garlic, picked herbs..
• Assemble salads and snacks- greens salads, chicken salads, deviled eggs…
• Wash, process, label + store bulk local produce
• Follow recipes and standards while adapting to seasonal changes

Kitchen Support

• Maintain a clean and sanitary work environment. Wiping station throughout shift, closing kitchen each night, and participating in weekly/monthly deep cleaning and inventory.
• Assist with catering prep, corporate drop-offs, and special events
• Support farmers markets and off-site food service as needed
• Help with specials, cooking classes, and occasional menu shifts
• Lift, move, and organize bulk ingredients and finished product

• Experience in a prep cook, production kitchen, or scratch-cooking environment
• Comfort with repetitive, physical kitchen work
• Ability to stand and work on your feet for 6–10 hour shifts
• Strong attention to detail and food safety
• Reliability, punctuality, and a team-first mindset
• Willingness to do dishes and cleaning as part of the job

• Experience with whole-animal and/or scratch cooking techniques
• Interest in local food systems, farms, and seasonal cooking
• Catering or high-volume prep experience
• Farmers market or event food experience
• Culinary education or strong home-cooking background
