$27 - $32 per hourJ2T Recruiting Consultants, Inc.
An independent construction testing and inspection company in Bozeman that's been busy for years. You run your own schedule, as long as the work gets done. A field engineer and a PE a phone call away when you hit something new. Projects all over southwest Montana, each with its own specs. Why This Job - Materials Testing Technician We've partnered with an independent construction materials testing and inspection company in Bozeman. They're the third party on site making sure buildings, roads and sites get built the way the plans and specs say, and they've been busy for about 4 years straight. They're hiring at Level II and Level III. You'll be out on your own most days, running the tests, writing your report from the truck and talking the contractor through what you found. Level III’s also take on special inspections like rebar, formwork and structural connections, and help the Level IIs when they hit something new. They're adding people so summers aren't a constant rush from one job to the next. If there's nothing on your calendar first thing, you come in when it's needed. If you've done materials testing and want more say over your day, reach out. What You'll Actually Do: Run concrete, soil, aggregate and asphalt tests in the field and the lab, to ASTM and AASHTO methods and the project specs. Test soil compaction with a nuclear gauge. Write your reports from the field so the project has results the same day. Read the plans and specs on each job and flag anything that doesn't meet them. Talk contractors and clients through the results and what has to happen next. Prepare, cure and ship specimens, and keep the equipment calibrated. At Level III, run special inspections on rebar, formwork, soils and structural connections, and be the call a Level II makes when something's new. What You Bring: Level II: 2 to 5 years in construction materials testing. Level III: 5 or more. An ACI Concrete Field Testing Technician certification and a nuclear gauge certification are what they'd like to see at Level II. A degree isn't required, though a civil, structural or geology background is welcome. Plan reading from a construction background is a good start, but they're looking for people who've done the testing and inspection side. A valid driver's license with an insurable record. You're comfortable on your own, and when a spec is new to you, you go find the answer. Microsoft Office. GeoSystems or gINT is a plus. Where and How Much: Location: Bozeman, MT. In the field most days, mostly around southwest Montana Compensation: Level II $27 to $32 an hour, Level III up to $35 an hour, plus overtime Health: $300 a month toward health insurance, or toward an HSA if you don't use their plan.
