Athletic Coach

The School Athletic Coach is responsible for the leadership, supervision, and organization of their respective sports program. The primary goal is to foster an environment where student-athletes can achieve their highest potential through discipline, teamwork, and the pursuit of excellence, all while upholding the division's core values of Excellence, Courage, Creativity, Honor and Optimism.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

• Develop and implement a comprehensive seasonal plan, including daily practice schedules and game strategies.
• Teach fundamental skills, advanced techniques, and the rules of the sport.
• Analyze individual and team performance data to make strategic adjustments during games and practices.
• Monitor the academic eligibility and progress of student-athletes, emphasizing that "student" comes before "athlete."
• Cultivate a culture of optimism and resilience, helping athletes navigate the emotional highs and lows of competition.
• Ensure student safety by supervising all practices, games, and travel.
• Manage team equipment, uniforms, and facility use in coordination with the Athletic Director.
• Maintain clear and professional communication with parents, faculty, and local media.
• Follow all district, state, and school regulations and compliance standards.

Required Qualifications & Skills

• Certification: Valid teaching license preferred (but not required); must hold or be willing to obtain appropriate sport specific or VHSL CPR/AED and First Aid requirements.
• Expertise: Deep knowledge of the sport's technical skills, strategy, and safety protocols.
• Communication: Ability to have "courageous conversations" with parents and athletes regarding playing time, behavior, or performance.
• Availability: Flexible schedule to accommodate after-school practices, evening games, and weekend tournaments.

Physical Demands

• Ability to demonstrate sports techniques and movements.
• Frequent standing, walking, and occasional lifting of athletic equipment.
• Field preparation as needed.

Exposure to varying weather conditions for outdoor sports.

Evaluation & Success Metrics Success in this role is measured by:

• The measurable growth of individual athlete skills over the course of a season.
• Adherence to the school's code of conduct by both players and coaching staff.
• Retention rates of student-athletes within the program.
