Description

Southwest Christian School is seeking a School Nurse for our elementary (Chisholm Trail) campus, beginning with the 2026-2027 school year.

Position Summary

The School Nurse is responsible for providing healthcare to students with acute or chronic health problems. The Nurse additionally conducts appropriate screenings, monitors medication distribution as required, and maintains applicable student records. All employees are expected to demonstrate patience, humility, integrity, and kindness while performing the day-to-day duties of the role and to prayerfully work with administration, faculty, students, and families to develop and maintain a school which is distinctively Christian, academically excellent, and globally minded.

Essential Job Responsibilities

• Demonstrates the ability to assess student health care needs and treat accordingly
• Schedules and coordinates annual state-required health screenings, such as vision, hearing, and spinal screenings
• Compiles and maintains student health records, and ensures secure storage of the records
• Maintains confidentiality - following HIPAA and FERPA guidelines
• Monitors information and mandates from the Texas Department of State Health Services, the CDC, and other pertinent healthcare information to advise School Leadership on policies and procedures; then aids in implementing changes as needed
• Maintains clear, open, professional communication with team members, parents, and other school employees
• Facilitates training for staff and faculty for CPR and AED use
• Exhibits a willingness to participate in the school community by supporting, sponsoring, and/or leading extracurricular activities

Requirements

Educational & Experience Requirements

• Graduated from an accredited nursing program with licensure; RN preferred
• CPR-AED Instructor Certification
• Two or more years of experience in nursing, in a school or hospital/clinic environment

• Cooperates with administrators, department chairpersons, and other school leadership to implement policies and procedures as they pertain to the daily operation of the nurse's office
• Demonstrates the ability to accept and carry out responsibilities and make competent, professional decisions
• Eagerly participates in professional development activities and the evaluation process with a desire to grow professionally, spiritually, and personally throughout the career in education
• Maintains a professional personal appearance that is a Christian role model of cleanliness, modesty, good taste, and is in accordance with school policy

Work Environment

The work environment at Southwest Christian School is consistent with a typical school setting. Ability to provide instructions clearly and effectively (verbal and written) to students and parents/caregivers; maintain emotional control under stress; ability to triage emergency conditions; and ability to exhibit rapid mental and muscular coordination simultaneously. The employee normally works indoors where the noise level in the environment is usually low to moderate, but may become loud occasionally. The employee is frequently required to interact with others within the school community, including parents and other caregivers.
