Job Summary:

The Purchasing Manager is a key operational leader responsible for the cost-effective and timely procurement of materials and services to support construction project execution. This role ensures materials are delivered in alignment with project schedules and budget targets while maintaining strong vendor relationships, negotiating pricing agreements, and overseeing procurement systems and reporting. The Purchasing Manager works closely with project teams, field personnel, and vendors to drive operational efficiency and cost control across all active job sites.

Duties/Responsibilities:

• Oversee the end-to-end procurement process, ensuring material is sourced, purchased, and delivered in alignment with project schedules and budgetary constraints.
• Develop and maintain a comprehensive tracking system for all general contractor materials, documenting quantity, vendor, purchase date, estimated delivery, purchase order numbers, and cost; update and report weekly.
• Negotiate vendor pricing and secure favorable terms and discount agreements to enhance company profitability.
• Issue and manage purchase orders for hospitality and commercial construction projects; verify invoice accuracy and approve for payment.
• Maintain strong vendor relationships to ensure reliable sourcing and resolve supply chain challenges proactively.
• Support project budgeting by tracking material costs and reconciling project-specific budgets on a weekly and daily basis using procurement and job costing software.
• Source and vet subcontractors; assist with trade-specific scope buyouts as needed.
• Ensure materials meet quality standards; oversee the inspection and delivery process in coordination with site teams.
• Assist estimating teams with pricing exercises and procurement strategy during pre-construction.
• Lead development and implementation of a companywide tool inventory and control system.
• Participate in weekly management meetings and contribute to departmental updates and strategy discussions.
• Support field operations by coordinating permit applications, trade inspections, and municipal compliance where applicable.
• Foster strong relationships with field superintendents and provide procurement support as needed.
• Identify new vendors, technologies, or sourcing opportunities that align with company growth and project needs.
• Performs other related duties as assigned. 

Required Skills/Abilities:

• Strong understanding of construction procurement, vendor management, and material logistics.
• Proven ability to analyze blueprints, specifications, and project scopes to determine material needs.
• Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, and construction management software platforms.
• Highly organized with excellent attention to detail and time management skills.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills; able to collaborate effectively with internal teams and external partners.
• Negotiation skills with a track record of delivering cost savings and value to the organization.
• Ability to solve problems and adapt in a fast-paced environment with shifting priorities.
• Familiarity with budget tracking, cost control, and procurement reporting.

Education and Experience:

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in Construction Management, Business, Supply Chain, or a related field.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in a construction purchasing or procurement role.
• Demonstrated experience negotiating contracts and managing vendor relationships.

Licensing/Certification:

• Required: Valid Driver’s License

The role may require occasional standing, walking, or bending to file documents, attend meetings, or move between office areas. Must be able to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods; regular travel to job sites required. Ability to safely navigate active construction environments, including uneven surfaces and elevated areas. Occasionally lift and carry materials or equipment up to 25 lbs. Comfortable working in a dynamic environment with moderate to high noise levels.
