SMT Setup Technician — PCB Assembly

Location: South Elgin, IL

Employment Type: Temp to hire

Compensation: $16.00 - $18.00 depending on experience

Hours: 1st shift: 7:00am - 3:30pm, 2nd shift: 4:00pm - 12:30am
Training will be on 1st shift for few weeks

A day in this role

You arrive a few minutes before the line powers up, confirm the pick list for the next build, and start staging reels and trays so the first job launches without a hitch. You’ll load and verify feeders, double-check component IDs, and support quick changeovers so production keeps flowing. When the next order queues up, you’ve already pulled parts from stockroom and overflow, ready for a smooth handoff.

What you’ll do

• Prepare, set up, and tear down component feeders for SMT pick-and-place machines.
• Stage feeders, reels, and materials in advance to keep changeovers fast and efficient.
• Partner with operators during machine changeovers to minimize downtime.
• Pull parts from stockroom and overflow locations based on pick lists.

What you bring

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• 1+ year of hands-on experience with SMT equipment preferred.
• Ability to identify electronic components accurately.
• Basic computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office and data entry.
• Familiarity with IPC SMT placement and soldering standards.
• Comfort reading and interpreting assembly drawings.
• Strong organization, accuracy, and problem-solving skills.
• A collaborative, team-first approach.

Physical and work environment

• Stand for extended periods while working at the line.
• Lift up to 50 lbs as needed.
