Senior Core Infrastructure Engineer (Networking & Distributed Systems)

Salary: $142,000 - 194,000 per year Requirements:

• Bachelors or masters degree in computer science or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• At least 3–5 years of software engineering experience building reliable services, infrastructure, or distributed systems; the posting also lists alternate qualification pathways requiring 8 years of software development experience, specified degrees with 2–4 years of experience, or a doctorate in a related field.
• Strong programming skills in at least one systems or backend language, such as Java, Go, Rust, C/C++, or Python; Rust is particularly advantageous for systems-oriented roles.
• Strong fundamentals in data structures, algorithms, operating systems, networking, concurrency, and distributed systems.
• Experience or a strong interest in cloud infrastructure, virtualization, Linux, containers, storage, networking, security, schedulers, control planes, or management planes.
• Ability to design, build, test, and debug reliable software in a large, evolving codebase.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills, with an ownership-oriented mindset.
• Knowledge of distributed systems, including designing or managing scalable, secure, highly available software.
• Experience creating and refining prototypes for system validation and stakeholder feedback.
• Understanding of computer science principles and the ability to implement them in code.
• Proficiency across the phases of software engineering and development.
• Knowledge of or ability in web development, including designing and developing web solutions.

• Design, implement, and optimize distributed-system components for scalability, resilience, and operability.
• Build and improve systems for large-scale data processing, retrieval, storage, and management of distributed state; implement and review scalability requirements.
• Deliver features and performance or load tests, and design functional tests for assigned work.
• Develop fault-tolerant components using redundancy, replication, failover, retries, circuit breakers, timeouts, and recovery-oriented principles.
• Create tests, alarms, dashboards, telemetry, and alerts to detect issues and monitor system health.
• Draft and execute runbooks and operational procedures; diagnose, debug, and resolve issues, and participate in support rotations, incident response, and root-cause investigations.
• Implement fault-injection and brownout testing, along with replication and synchronization methods that preserve correctness, data integrity, and availability.
• Develop automation scripts, tools, and infrastructure-as-code for troubleshooting, maintenance, and cloud infrastructure management.
• Apply security controls, including encryption and access management, implement remediation plans, and help maintain compliance and current documentation.
• Follow change-management processes for patching, updates, and rollbacks.
• Track timelines, prioritize work as project needs change, and collaborate across teams to align on stakeholder and customer needs.
• Troubleshoot issues, share knowledge and best practices, pursue continuous learning, and recommend process and workflow improvements.
