Accounting Technician

Job Overview We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Accounting Technician to join the School of Public and International Affairs (SPIA). In this role, you will support the financial operations of multiple departments and programs, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and efficiency across a variety of accounting functions. Responsibilities Initiate and process financial transactions and maintain complex financial records. Oversee program finances, including those of specialized initiatives such as AOMP and LEEP, ensuring data accuracy and alignment with institutional policies. Assist the Business Officer in maintaining and monitoring SPIA’s budget and spending plan, and identify opportunities for process improvement. Provide front‑office support to faculty, staff, and students, serving as a helpful resource. Act as a back‑up liaison for Finance and HR processes during the Business Officer’s absence. Assist with non‑permanent employee hires, monitor employment transactions, and support bi‑weekly time‑keeping processes. Other Responsibilities Back‑up to the Business Services Coordinator. Perform additional tasks as assigned based on organizational needs. Qualifications High School Diploma or equivalency and one year of accounting experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Preferred Qualifications Experience in higher education accounting and business administration. Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Google Suite, and PeopleSoft.
