Mechanical Maintenance Technician

This position is responsible for troubleshooting, repairing, installing, and improving mechanical systems that support critical production operations. The successful candidate is a self-driven industrial maintenance mechanic who enjoys solving complex mechanical problems, minimizing downtime, working alongside electrical technicians and operators, and improving equipment reliability.What We're Looking ForA technician who takes ownership of equipment reliability, works safely, collaborates across departments, and is motivated to continuously improve aging production equipment rather than simply repairing failures.Primary ResponsibilitiesTroubleshoot and repair industrial machinery, conveyors, gearboxes, pumps, bearings, chains, sprockets, couplings, and power transmission equipment.Diagnose and repair hydraulic and pneumatic systems including cylinders, valves, pumps, filters, hoses, regulators, and actuators.Perform precision alignment of motors, pumps, gearboxes, and rotating equipment.Replace bearings, seals, shafts, rollers, wear components, and mechanical assemblies.Perform welding, cutting, fabrication, and minor machining as required.Read and interpret mechanical drawings, hydraulic schematics, pneumatic diagrams, OEM manuals, and assembly drawings.Perform preventive and predictive maintenance to maximize equipment uptime.Work closely with electrical technicians during major repairs, installations, and equipment upgrades.Perform root-cause analysis and implement permanent corrective actions.Participate in equipment upgrades and continuous improvement projects.Maintain accurate maintenance documentation and communicate effectively across departments.Ability to use a computer to write daily reports, respond to emails, and search for replacement parts.Responsible for proper care and cleanliness of tools, equipment, materials, and work area.Responsible for providing coverage in the absence of other Maintenance Technicians.Qualifications5+ years of industrial mechanical maintenance experience preferred.Experience in steel processing, stamping, or heavy manufacturing preferred.Strong troubleshooting ability with rotating equipment and hydraulic systems.Experience with conveyors, gearboxes, pumps, bearings, and power transmission equipment.Welding and fabrication experience preferred.Knowledge of OSHA and Lockout/Tagout procedures.Mechanical apprenticeship, trade school, or equivalent industrial experience.Computer proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, email, and job-related internet research.What You'll Be Working OnSteel processing and slitting equipmentHeavy-duty conveyors and material handling systemsPumps, gearboxes, bearings, shafts, and couplingsHydraulic and pneumatic systemsIndustrial lubrication systemsMechanical power transmission equipmentWelding and fabrication projectsPreventive and predictive maintenanceIndustrial machinery installations and upgradesOverhead cranes and heavy material handling equipment.What Makes Someone Successful HereWe are looking for technicians who: • Enjoy troubleshooting more than replacing parts. • Naturally ask 'Why did it fail?' • Take ownership of equipment reliability. • Can work independently while supporting the team. • Value safety, quality workmanship, and continuous improvement. • Stay calm under production pressure and communicate effectively.Physical Requirements• Job performance demands constant application of the following physical requirements: use of hands.• Job performance demands frequent application of the following physical requirements: lifting (Avg. 20 lbs), walking, standing, bending, fine manipulation, close visual acuity, near/far vision, upper limb coordination, multiple limb coordination• Job performance demands occasional application of the following physical requirements: lifting (Max. 80 lbs.), carrying, sitting, reaching, overhead reaching/lifting, pushing, pulling, squatting, kneeling, twisting, climbing, balancing, foot controls, driving, total visual field.• Be able and willing to work in non-ideal environments such as: tight spaces, working at heights, dusty/dirty areas, around heavy machinery, and wear hard-hats and ear-plugs.Career Path• Mechanical Maintenance Technician I • Mechanical Maintenance Technician II • Senior Mechanical Maintenance Technician. • Lead Mechanical Maintenance Technician.BenefitsExcellent benefits include medical with a standard PPO plan with deductibles as low as $1,500 and wellness credit up to $750; voluntary 401k plan deduction up to 12% with varying company match per quarter; voluntary dental and vision plans; telemedicine services; basic life and short-term disability coverage.We are all in for change.
