Qualifications

As a Social Studies Teacher at VPA, you'll have the opportunity to:

• Plan and Present Engaging Lessons: Facilitate students' understanding and application of social sciences and humanities concepts, aligned with Colorado Academic Standards
• Prepare Learning Materials: Distribute assignments, notes, and quizzes, and source any resources or supplies needed for your lessons
• Create a Positive Learning Environment: Ensure the classroom remains safe, respectful, and conducive to learning
• Grading and Reporting: Grade assignments and quizzes promptly, document and report on students' progress, and invigilate quizzes and final exams
• Collaborate with Parents and Staff: Attend meetings with parents and staff to discuss students' progress and foster a team-oriented approach to student success
• Who You Are
• We're looking for someone who:
• Has a Deep Understanding of Social Studies: You have a strong grasp of social studies topics such as history, economics, political science, and more
• Is Committed to Student Success: You are dedicated to helping students develop informed and reasoned decision-making skills as future citizens
• Is a Strong Communicator: You possess excellent written and oral communication skills to effectively engage students and collaborate with staff
• Has Experience with Effective Teaching Practices: You are familiar with the Madeline Hunter Method (I do, we do, you do), skill mastery, and a classical education approach
• Minimum Qualifications
• Valid Colorado Teaching License with endorsement in Secondary Social Studies OR 36 credit hours in Social Studies OR passing score on the PRAXIS Social Studies exam (required)
• Specific knowledge of assigned subject areas
• Previous teaching experience preferred, or experience working with children
• Strong written and oral communication skills
