Job Description
Precision Upsetter Tooling Finisher A day in this role
You start by reviewing tooling requirements for the manual and automatic upsetter machines, then gather micrometers, calipers, steel gauge pins, and other gages to verify critical dimensions. Next, you disassemble, recondition, bench, and clean dies and related tooling, resurfacing them with hand tools such as powered drills, grinders, and files to restore smooth finishes. Throughout the shift, you inspect dies for cracks, evaluate wear to determine if they’re salvageable, and analyze any defective parts to recommend adjustments or modifications. You’ll decipher blueprints, document process measurements on the required forms, maintain a spotless workstation, and follow every plant and safety rule. Other duties arise, and you handle them with care and precision.
Scope- Assemble, recondition, bench, change, and clean tooling for manual and automatic upsetters.
- Measure and document results using company forms; ensure conformance to specifications.
- Use micrometers, calipers, steel gauge pins, and other measuring devices with confidence.

- Inspect for cracks, finish quality, and dimensional accuracy; verify die opening diameters.
- Assess worn dies for salvageability; recommend changes based on root-cause observations.
- Read and interpret part, machine, and die blueprints.
- Keep machines, tools, and the work area clean; follow all safety and plant procedures.
- Perform additional tasks as assigned.
Individual contributor; no supervisory responsibilities.

- Proficiency with micrometers, calipers, and related measurement devices.
- Strong mechanical aptitude.
- Prior crane operation experience.
- Stand, walk, push, pull, squat, bend, and reach throughout the shift.
- Move materials using carts, dollies, cranes, and jacks as needed.
- Routinely lift and/or move up to 40 lbs.
- Tolerate wide temperature swings driven by weather and machinery.
- Work in areas with elevated noise and vibration.
- Wear required PPE at all times: hard hat, protective eyewear, ear plugs, and approved footwear with metatarsal and steel toe safeguards.
- Comfortable working in confined spaces.
You’ll work around historic forging equipment and active conveyance systems where heat, noise, debris, and moving materials are common. Expect significant floor and overhead traffic in the department and periods of high vibration with occasional airborne particulates.
