Summary Organizational Location: This position is with the Department of Homeland Security, within U.S. Customs and Border Protection, U.S. Border Patrol, Tucson Sector, Nogales Station, located in Nogales, AZ. This announcement will be open for 5 business days OR until the first 75 applications have been received, whichever happens first. Additional selections may be made for other organizational divisions and/or units within the duty location(s) listed above. Duties This position uses your experience in various mission support duties that fulfill the goals and objectives of U.S. Border Patrol. This position starts at a salary of $62,893.00 (GS-09, Step 1) to $98,928.00 (GS-11, Step 10). GS Salary: Visit this link to view the locality pay tables by geographic area. In this Mission Support Specialist (Generalist) role, you will carry out a wide variety of mission support, workforce management, staffing and position management, administrative research, logistics, and other program planning activities related to the missions and functions of the agency. Typical duties and responsibilities include: Conducting records management for various activities, performing audits, and extracting reports. Preparing briefings and reports for management to foster understanding and acceptance of findings and recommending future operational needs. Developing detailed plans, goals, and objectives for program implementation, and developing criteria for evaluating effectiveness of current and proposed processes. Coordinating inter-related issues involving personnel management and administrative circumstances and/or situations. Formulating, presenting, monitoring, advising, and reporting on the division and sector’s workforce management programs, planning, and performance planning operations. For local chapter contact information see Qualifications Experience: You qualify for the GS-09 grade level if you possess 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level, performing duties such as: Preparing local records and assisting with producing various reports. Coordinating with the supervisor and staff to ensure receipt of documents and that actions are completed in a timely manner. Preparing informational packages for senior management. Gathering necessary information and preparing briefing materials for supervisors and other senior management officials. Experience: You qualify for the GS-11 grade level if you possess 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level, performing duties such as: Gathering information to identify and analyze problems and make recommendations to improve effectiveness and efficiency of work. Analyzing data to identify trends and develop estimates and studies. Building detailed objectives, plans, and goals for program implementation. Coordinating and monitoring administrative projects such as budget, personnel, resiliency, travel, space, logistics, etc. NOTE: Your resume must explicitly indicate how you meet this requirement, otherwise you will be found ineligible. Education Substitution: GS-09: A Master’s degree, two full years of graduate education, a J.D. or an LL.B. degree from an accredited college or university may substitute for experience required at this level. Check with your school to determine how many credit hours comprise two years of graduate education. If that information is not available, use 36 semester or 54 quarter hours. GS-11: A Ph.D. or an equivalent doctoral degree, three full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree or an LL.M. degree from an accredited college or university may substitute for experience required at this level. Such education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position. Check with your school to determine how many credit hours comprise two years of graduate education. If that information is not available, use 54 semester or 81 quarter hours. Combining Education and Experience: To combine your education and experience, you must convert each to a percentage, and then add the percentages. The combined total of your percentage of education and experience must equal at least 100% to qualify. Only graduate education in excess of the amount required for the next lower grade level may be used to qualify applicants for positions at grades GS-9 and GS-11. If your education is currently described in quarter hours, convert the quarter hours into semester hours by multiplying the quarter hours by the fraction 2/3. To calculate your percentage of graduate education, divide the number of graduate semester hours by 18. To determine your percentage of qualifying experience, you must divide your total number of months of qualifying experience by the required number of months of experience. Add your percentages of education and experience. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps #J-18808-Ljbffr
