Kane Partners is searching for an experienced Linux Support Engineer for a growing international software development company in Northern New Jersey.

\n

\n

This is a hands-on technical position supporting sophisticated software applications running on Linux production platforms.

\n

\n

Linux is the foundation of this role.

\n

\n

We're looking for someone with 5+ years of experience working hands-on with Red Hat or another Linux operating system who can independently troubleshoot problems across the application, operating system and network layers.

\n

\n

When something isn't working, you'll be expected to get into the Linux environment, investigate what's happening, gather the right logs and traces, analyze network traffic and help determine the root cause.

\n

\n

What You'll Do

\n

• Troubleshoot applications running on Linux production servers

\n

• Diagnose application, operating system and network-related issues

\n

• Work extensively from the Linux command line

\n

• Investigate services, processes, logs, connectivity and system behavior

\n

• Troubleshoot SIP/VoIP and network-related issues

\n

• Capture and analyze network traffic using Wireshark and tcpdump

\n

• Gather and analyze application and system logs and traces

\n

• Apply software fixes, patches and updates to production platforms

\n

• Write MOPs (Methods of Procedure) for production changes

\n

• Participate in scheduled maintenance windows and upgrades

\n

• Work directly with customer engineering teams to resolve technical issues

\n

• Document suspected software bugs and provide technical findings to Development

\n

\n

What We're Looking For

\n

• 5+ years of hands-on Linux/Red Hat production experience

\n

• Strong Linux CLI troubleshooting skills

\n

• Experience troubleshooting software applications running on Linux

\n

• Strong networking fundamentals including TCP/IP, UDP, routing, ports and firewalls

\n

• Working knowledge of SIP and VoIP

\n

• Experience analyzing packet captures with Wireshark

\n

• Ability to gather and analyze Linux logs and traces

\n

• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving ability

\n

• Strong communication skills and comfort working with customer engineering teams

\n

Nice to Have

\n

Linux scripting • VMware vSphere • Diameter • Basic PHP • Cisco IOS

\n

\n

This is not desktop support and it isn't a traditional network-only position.

\n

\n

We're looking for someone who enjoys getting underneath a difficult technical problem and determining whether the issue is in the software application, Linux operating system or network.
