Travel Healthcare Job Details

Hospital Food Service Worker Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent
• At least 1 year of food service experience, including previous hospital or healthcare food service experience
• Food Service Aide certification or equivalent food-handling training
• Knowledge of safe food preparation, sanitation, infection prevention, and HACCP principles
• Ability to follow prescribed diets, allergy precautions, and patient meal instructions
• Strong communication, teamwork, dependability, and customer-service skills
• Ability to safely stand, walk, lift, clean, and operate food service equipment throughout the shift

Hospital Dietary Services Responsibilities

• Prepare, assemble, and deliver patient meals and snacks according to prescribed diets and identified allergies.
• Assist patients with menu selections while respecting food sensitivities and cultural, ethnic, and religious preferences.
• Prepare cold food items such as salads, sandwiches, desserts, nourishments, and snacks; assist with hot food preparation as assigned.
• Update and validate diet changes in the patient diet management system and distribute menus, meal tickets, and related reports.
• Follow sanitation, infection-control, risk-management, and HACCP procedures to promote safe food handling.
• Record food, refrigeration, and dish machine temperatures, as well as sanitizer strength.
• Clean and maintain work areas and equipment, including dishwashing, sweeping, mopping, trash removal, and stocking.
• Stock nourishment areas and rotate products using first-in, first-out procedures; remove expired items.
• Support cafeteria operations, including serving, grilling, stocking, cleaning, and cash handling as assigned.
• Communicate patient care and food service concerns to departmental leadership.
• Maintain a positive, helpful, and respectful attitude with patients, visitors, coworkers, and members of the healthcare team.
• Follow workplace safety, personal appearance, attendance, punctuality, equipment-use, and privacy requirements.
