Description Emergency Services seeks an RN Clinical Coordinator for the Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE) Program at UNC Hospitals. Strongly prefer relevant RN/SANE clinical experience and a completed NCBON‑approved sexual assault nurse examiner training program that meets the International Association of Forensic Nurse educational guidelines. Desired are candidates with SANE‑A and SANE‑P certifications and credentials from the Intimate Partner Violence Examiner course. Summary The Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE) Program Coordinator plays a pivotal role overseeing the SANE Program. This multifaceted position involves direct patient care, education, investigation, consultation, and leadership. As a key member of a multidisciplinary team, the Coordinator contributes significantly to patient care excellence, research, teaching, and leadership within Emergency Services. Responsibilities Collaborate to coordinate care for patients identified as survivors of sexual assault or intimate partner violence, ensuring comprehensive physical and emotional support. Facilitate treatment plans and forensic examinations, ensuring meticulous documentation and evidence preservation for legal proceedings. Serve as a forensic nurse conducting examinations as needed. Provide primary SANE education. Serve as a resource for patients, families, staff, providers, community, and outside agencies. Plan, develop, and deliver educational materials and presentations. Oversee onboarding, ongoing education, and annual competencies for clinical nurses providing SANE services. Participate in Quality Assessment and Performance Improvement (QAPI). Develop, implement, and evaluate program objectives and goals. Review clinical and administrative processes to identify improvement areas. Compile de‑identified patient and program data for quality and performance activities, monitoring care processes and implementing changes based on performance data. Coordinate program administration. Work with Emergency Services leadership to develop, implement, and evaluate SANE care protocols, pathways, and order sets. Facilitate multidisciplinary meetings and communication between internal and external stakeholders for continuous patient care. Assist in budget development and cost containment strategies. Support human resources functions. Assist in recruitment, interviewing, and onboarding of nurses to maintain 24/7 SANE availability. Conduct annual evaluations of nurses employed exclusively for the SANE program. Lead outreach efforts. Collaborate with the program medical director to develop and implement outreach materials and programs for referring community providers. Represent the program at community events and meetings. Partner with outside agencies to initiate or maintain collaborations that grow the UNC Hospitals SANE program. Assume on‑call availability as a resource, including nights and weekends as needed. Education Requirements Bachelor's degree in Nursing (BSN) from a state‑accredited nursing program. Completion of an approved North Carolina SANE program with certificates of completion. Licensure/Certification Requirements Registered Nurse license in the state of North Carolina. Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification. Specialty certifications: SANE‑A and SANE‑P required. Professional Experience Requirements Three (3) years of professional nursing in tertiary care. One (1) year of management experience in a nursing specialty. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Language Skills: Read, analyze, and interpret clinical information and technical procedures; document clinical information; effectively communicate with patients, physicians, family members, and hospital staff. Mathematical Skills: Apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations. Reasoning Ability: Define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions; interpret technical instructions.
