Plumber (Skilled Trade Specialist III)

Position Overview The Maryland Aviation Administration (MAA) is the owner and operator of BWI Thurgood Marshall and Martin State Airports, serving over 27 million passengers annually. The MAA is currently accepting applications for the position of Skilled Trade Specialist III Plumber within the Office of Facilities Maintenance at the Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport (BWI Marshall Airport). Responsibilities Inspect and approve the work of outside plumbing contractors or in‑house non‑licensed plumbing staff. Carry out the full range of plumbing installation and repair work. Perform plumbing work as part of the crew. Participate in emergency call‑back procedures, available 24 hours a day to maintain continuous facility operation. Work rotating shifts, including evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays. Operate within Anne Arundel County, MD at BWI Marshall Airport. Qualifications Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate. Four years of experience working as a plumber. Possession of a Journey level or higher Plumber License issued by the Maryland State Board of Plumbing. Ability to provide complete and accurate experience information, including full‑time, part‑time, volunteer, military, or other relevant experience. If holding multiple positions at the same employer, list each position and length of time. Additional work experience in plumbing may replace required education on a year‑for‑year basis. A certificate from a vocational‑technical school majoring in plumbing may replace one year of required experience. U.S. Armed Forces military service experience may substitute in‑field work experience on a year‑for‑year basis. Licenses & Certifications Valid motor vehicle operator's license in the State of Maryland required for all applicants. During probation, may need to obtain and maintain a Class A or Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) depending on equipment operated. Must obtain an Airfield Operators Permit in accordance with Maryland Regulations 11.03.01.04 before permanent appointment. Must satisfy agency training and certification program requirements for permanent status. Maintain a journey or higher plumbing license for permanent status in the licensed plumber option. Special Requirements Extensive pre‑employment security background check as required by the FAA and Federal Aviation Regulation Part 107. Willingness and availability for duty at any hour, including day or night, to maintain continuous facility operation and subject to call‑in. Maintain a reliable communication link for emergency call‑back. Potential medical testing and hazardous materials training for work with asbestos, lead‑based paint, chromium, or other hazardous materials; respirator required. Ability to perform maintenance work on high structures and in cramped quarters. Essential Employee status requires signing and agreeing to related policies and procedures. Subject to pre‑employment drug testing and ongoing substance abuse testing in accordance with Maryland Transportation Code.
