Westchester County Solid Waste Commission is growing and actively seeking Background Investigator: Learn more about our Solid Waste Commission The mission of the Westchester County Solid Waste Commission is to promote the general health, welfare and safety of the citizens of Westchester County by regulating the solid waste industry and ensuring that only individuals and companies of good character, honesty and integrity receive and retain licenses to operate in the Solid Waste industry; increasing competition among haulers and enhancing consumer choice; seeking to eliminate fraud and the influence of Organized Crime and other organized criminal activity and bad actors in the Solid Waste industry. Responsibilities for this role will include but are not limited to: Accept and review new applications. Analyze applicant’s fingerprint results to identify any criminal history. Conduct detailed background investigations on the applicant company and all principals in an effort to detect any unethical business practices or any violations of New York State Law or the laws of Westchester County including the Westchester County Solid Waste Law. Obtain detailed descriptions of the applicant company’s business activities and question the principals about any issues that might impact the Commission’s approval of that company’s permit or license renewal, among other things. Meet regularly with the WC SWC Executive Director to report any issues and/or possible criminal activity regarding applicant companies or any of their principals or associates. Prepare and submit background investigation case reports documenting the findings of the background investigation and interview for each company to the SWC Executive Director for review.
