General Overview

The Custodial/Maintenance Technician is responsible for ensuring that the organization's building, equipment, and grounds are safe, clean, and in good working order. They perform routine custodial work, minor electrical and painting, maintenance and repairs, manage and coordinate external contractors and club member volunteers, and implements the setup and takedown for a variety of events. This role requires a flexible and proactive individual who can work independently and prioritize multiple tasks effectively. 

This position reports directly to the Director of House and Grounds, and close collaboration is required.

Key Areas of Responsibility

Custodial Work & Cleaning

·       Vacuum floors, clean windows, and maintain restrooms and showers (including disinfecting and restocking supplies).

·       Spot-clean carpets, maintain general floor care, and ensure waste disposal.

·       Promptly clean spills or hazards to maintain safety for members and guests.

·       Maintain the cleanliness of the clubhouse interior and exterior, including the entrance sign and posting/cleanliness of burgees from other clubs in the main room.

Facility Maintenance

·       Replace non-working lights, bulbs, or tubes.

·       Perform minor repairs, plumbing, painting, furniture repair, and graffiti removal.

·       Assist with landscaping, including watering, replacing ground cover, and bushes.

Equipment Handling

·       Install, test, operate, and maintain facility equipment.

·       Repair select equipment as needed.

Event & Emergency Support

·       Set up and take down furniture, equipment, and event-related items for DBYC events.

·       Patrol the facility and grounds while maintaining oversight of the front desk area, ensuring both security and visibility.

·       Respond to emergency custodial or maintenance needs promptly.

Safety & Hazard Control

·       Monitor fire systems, AEDs, and earthquake-prevention measures.

·       Install and monitor pest-control devices, handle hazardous materials, and apply chemicals safely.

Inventory & Coordination

·       Restock custodial supplies and acquire repair parts.

·       Manage and coordinate external contractors and member volunteers as needed.

Member & Guest Interaction

·       Maintain respectful and courteous relations with members, guests, staff, and contractors.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

•                 Proficiency in general building maintenance and custodial practices.

•                 Ability to diagnose and perform minor to moderate repairs.

•                 Understanding of safety regulations, including handling of chemicals and hazardous waste.

•                 Ability to work both independently and collaboratively.

•                 Good communication skills for coordinating with staff, contractors, and members.

•                 Must be physically able to lift 40 pounds, use ladders, work in various weather conditions, and perform manual labor.  

Qualifications

•                 Education: High school diploma or equivalent.

•                 Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.

•                 Experience:

o    Demonstrated skills in carpentry, electrical, plumbing, painting, or other trades.

o    Preferred experience in facility maintenance (offices, schools, or healthcare settings).

o    Completion of an apprenticeship program in any trade field is a plus.

Additional Requirements

•                 May oversee contractors, short-term staff or volunteers.

•                 Must respond to emergency facility issues as needed.

•                 Expected to maintain professionalism and a service-oriented demeanor at all times.

•                 Ability to collaborate effectively with other departments to support the club’s mission.

•                 Have an attention to detail which is essential for identifying minor issues before they become major problems.
