Job Title: Officer, Public Safety and Security Division: Fiscal Affairs Evaluation Group: Staff FLSA Status: Non-Exempt Reports To: Associate Director, Public Safety andSecurity Positions Supervised: N/A Job Summary The public safety and security officer is responsible formaintaining a safe and secure environment for students, staff andvisitors by patrolling the campus, reporting crime and enforcinguniversity policies. Essential Job Functions and Performance Indicators The intent of this job description is to provide a representationof the types of duties and level of responsibility that will berequired of positions given this title. Job Responsibilities and Execution Secures premises by patrolling property, monitoringsurveillance equipment and inspecting buildings and accesspoints Upholds university’s standards and reputation by complying withlegal requirements of the Clery Act Maintains up-to-date knowledge of the university’s EmergencyAction Plan Enforces campus parking regulations Completes incident/accident reports for missing or stolenproperty and criminal activity; assures accurate reports, includingdetailed, complete observations and information Conducts surveillance Interviews witnesses and obtains signatures Service Excellence Supports the university mission and serves as an ambassador ofthe Q2 culture of service excellence Models, supports and holds others accountable to theuniversity’s values - integrity, dedication, excellence, creativityand teamwork Accompanies visitors, students and employees on campus uponrequest Provides public assistance, including lockout services, firstaid, vehicle jump-starts and traffic direction Communication, Teamwork and Collaboration Prevents loss and damage via consistent reporting ofconcerns Educates violators on proper policies and procedures Job may require other duties as assigned. Required Qualifications An equivalent combination ofeducation, training and experience will be considered. Additionalrequirements may be designated by position. High school diploma or equivalent Valid driver’s license Acceptable criminal background check Security license must be obtained within 60 days ofemployment Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and First Aidcertifications must be obtained in a timely manner State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) Incident CommandSystem (ICS) 100 Higher Education (HE) and 700 courses must bepassed with certifications obtained Bachelor’s degree preferred Security, military or law enforcement experience preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities May be representative, butnot all inclusive, of the knowledge, skills and abilities necessaryto perform this job competently. Demonstrated ability to work effectively with individuals fromdiverse communities and cultures Ability to use good judgement, think critically and problemsolve Ability to mediate, intervene and remain calm duringemergencies, hostile situations and physical altercations Ability to work with large groups of students Effective communication skills Strong personal integrity Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office Work Environment Environmental or atmospheric conditionscommonly associated with the performance of this job’s functions.
