Mechanical Engineer I
Saviance
We are seeking a highly skilled Mechanical Engineering Contractor with strong CAD expertise and hands-on experience operating metrology equipment-specifically Computed Tomography (CT) scanners. This role will support ongoing R&D, product development, and validation activities, with additional responsibilities in injection molding process support, part inspection, and documentation. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, technically strong, and comfortable working in a fast-paced engineering environment with minimal supervision.
Key Responsibilities
Metrology & CT Scanning
• Operate industrial CT scanners and related metrology equipment for dimensional analysis and internal structural evaluation of components.
• Generate and interpret 3D datasets, including voxel-based reconstructions and high-resolution scans preferably on VolumeGraphics VGStudio MAX.
• Perform GD&T-based dimensional inspections and create comprehensive metrology reports.
• Identify defects, internal features, voids, and dimensional variances through CT analysis.
• Maintain scan logs, and data-storage workflows.
CAD & Mechanical Engineering
• Create, modify, and update 3D CAD models and 2D drawings (e.g., SolidWorks, Creo, or equivalent).
• Perform tolerance analyses and ensure design intent is captured accurately.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support design improvements and manufacturability evaluations.
• Assist in prototype development and design verification activities.
Injection Molding Support
• Support injection-molded part evaluations, including first-article inspections and mold-validation tasks.
• Analyze molded part defects (sink, warp, flash, dimensional drift) using both CAD and CT data.
• Collaborate with tooling engineers, mold technicians, or external vendors as required.
• Support mold trials, sample coordination, and part quality documentation.
Documentation & Reporting
• Prepare detailed engineering reports summarizing scan results, dimensional deviations, and key findings.
• Maintain accurate project documentation, revision histories, and compliance-related data.
• Present findings to engineering teams, management, or suppliers as needed.
Qualifications
Required
• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or related field; or equivalent technical experience.
• Proficiency with CAD modeling and drafting software (SolidWorks, Creo, or similar).
• Hands-on experience operating CT scanners or similar 3D metrology equipment (CMM, laser scanning, etc.).
• Strong understanding of GD&T, dimensional analysis, and tolerance stacks.
• Familiarity with injection molding processes and molded-part evaluation.
• Ability to interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and material standards.
• Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
Preferred
• Experience with metrology software (e.g., VGStudio MAX, PolyWorks, GOM, Zeiss Calypso, PC-DMIS).
• Experience with DFM/DFA evaluations for plastic components.
• Knowledge of polymer materials and molding parameters.
• Prior experience in an R&D or product development environment.
Personal Attributes
• Detail-oriented with strong problem-solving abilities.
• Comfortable working independently with minimal supervision.
• Ability to manage multiple projects and meet tight timelines.
• Team-oriented mindset and strong communication skills.
