Senior R&D Mechanical Engineer - Scientific Instrumentation

Agilent seeks a Senior R&D Mechanical Engineer to lead mechanical design and architecture for advanced scientific instrumentation. The role spans precision mechanisms, vacuum systems, thermal management, and cross-functional collaboration from concept through product release in Santa Clara.

Responsibilities

• Lead mechanical design and architecture for complex scientific instruments from concept through release
• Convert scientific and customer requirements into mechanical concepts, specifications, and verified designs
• Select materials, finishes, adhesives, fasteners, and manufacturing processes for laboratory and vacuum environments
• Perform thermal, structural, tolerance, and stack-up analyses using engineering calculations and simulation
• Plan and execute prototype builds, design verification, and root-cause investigations with documentation

Requirements

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent practical experience
• Minimum 8 years of professional mechanical design experience delivering complex hardware products
• Strong knowledge of engineering materials, thermal loading, and heat conduction behavior
• Experience designing laboratory or scientific equipment with attention to cleanliness and environmental factors
• Proficiency with engineering drawings, geometric dimensioning, tolerance analysis, and design-release practices
• Experience with machined, sheet-metal, molded, and 3D-printed components and supplier management
• Advanced CAD proficiency with Siemens NX or comparable parametric 3D platform preferred

Compensation: $153,823–$269,550 base annually plus bonus, stock, and benefits
