Position Title Senior Vegetation Management Inspector (SVMI) Alternate Title SVMI Reports To Operations Manager Division / Department Operations / Operations Compensation Base hourly amount: $52.87 per hour. In lieu of benefits adds $13.22 per hour, totaling $66.09 per hour. Additional benefits are provided in accordance with the applicable Collective Bargaining Agreement. Job Description The Senior Vegetation Management Inspector is a safety‑sensitive role responsible for conducting inspections, audits, and monitoring contractor performance. The SVMI plans, directs, and coordinates tree clearance crews, serves as liaison with clients, tree crews, and customers, and ensures compliance with PG&E Vegetation Management Standards and Procedures. Duties & Responsibilities Resolve obstacles to enable safe, cost‑effective, efficient, and timely completion of work. Manage day‑to‑day activities to keep personnel focused, verify scope is achieved, and keep documentation updated. Act as VM contact for new business and reconstruction work. Approve scheduling and scope changes in the field with PG&E representative approval. Promote safety culture, perform and document Safety Observations and Good Catches. Audit work performed by VMIs for compliance. Assist in training and onboarding of VM Inspectors. Support PG&E Work Verification team to address observations timely. Maintain working relationships with public agencies (Caltrans, CalFire, USFS, BLM) and PG&E’s tree contractors. Patrol distribution or transmission circuits and prescribe work to contractors. Determine trim or removal requirements and assess hazard potential of trees. Prescribe necessary tree pruning and removal to meet PG&E regulatory and operational standards. Use PG&E’s VMDSR system for reporting and data maintenance. Perform quality‑check audits on assigned VMIs focusing on field compliance and data integrity. Assist in outage investigations, emergency response, fire and incident investigations, and customer claims investigations. Ensure all sections of line are patrolled per the annual plan and packaging procedures. Identify and notify the PG&E representative of idle and private lines. Perform other work as directed by the PG&E representative or PG&E procedures. Equipment, Environmental and Safety Requirements Driving and operating vehicles and equipment (cars, trucks, forklifts). Walking on uneven ground and exposure to noise, temperature, humidity, dust, gases, fumes, and chemicals. Acceptance of repetitive foot movement, prolonged sitting during meetings or training, and variable forestry‑related equipment use. Use of safety gear such as hard hats, safety vests, and safety glasses. Qualifications TRAQ Certification. High School diploma or GED. Class C driver’s license. Experience levels: 5 years as tree crew climber or foreman with 2 years line clearance certification, or 5 years as a Vegetation Management Inspector and Certified Arborist, or 5 years as a Registered Professional Forester, or 5 years as a Utility Inspector with at least one year vegetation management experience, or 4 years military service with discharge and 1 year vegetation management inspection experience. All hires subject to approval by PG&E representative. Required Skills Tree identification, growth rates, GIS software use, and data collection devices. Strong communication, organization, and customer service skills. Proficiency with Microsoft Office and self‑motivation. Ability to work in varied terrain and inclement weather; flexible schedules (including nights and weekends). Strong verbal and written communication; ability to present ideas formally and informally. Adaptability, flexibility, accountability, accuracy, and work quality. Dependability, independence, and interpersonal skills. Positive attitude and creativity. Quantity and comparability of work meet job requirements. Training Requirements OSHA 30‑hour construction safety overview (within 6 months of start). Certified Tree Safety Professional (CTSP) or Certified Arborist (CA) and TRAQ certificate (within 6 months of test eligibility). 911 Standby training (within 1 month of start). Working knowledge of QA/QC (within 1 month of start). Computer training for forms, GIS access, and document uploads (within 1 month of start). Supervisor Responsibilities Act as liaison between client’s representative and Operations Manager.
