Job Title: Emergency Room Registered Nurse Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: Emergency Room/MedSurg Float Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12-hour Days, 3 shifts per week, Every 3rd Weekend Hours per Shift: 36 hours per week Experience: Minimum 2 years of experience required License: Active RN License Certifications: BLS, ACLS, PALS (TNCC preferred) Must-Have: Previous travel experience (2 assignments minimum), ability to learn EMR Description: Travelers will be required to float to MedSurg when there are no ER patients. Experience in a busy MedSurg environment preferred. Flexibility to assist as needed is essential. Ability to learn a non-popular electronic medical record system is required. The trauma level is CAH, with a 4-bay emergency room. There are 1-2 beds/trauma bays. A designated pediatric and well-women/psych room is also available. Fast track and triage areas are limited; no separate triage area exists. Patients can be held in MedSurg for extended stays if needed. Psych/seclusion rooms are available, but security is not in-house; 911 is the protocol. On average, 6-7 patients are treated in the ER per day. The nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:3-4. If there are more than two patients, EMS will assist with triage. Paramedics are available for assistance from triage to discharge. Common diagnoses include general ER cases, urgent care, cardiac issues, and various traumas. Critical care drips are commonly administered. Mid-level providers cover both the emergency room and MedSurg, supported by a physician available via telephone. A shared charge nurse oversees the emergency room and MedSurg. Nurse aides, EMTs, paramedics, and secretaries are part of the support staff. Respiratory therapy is available weekdays during regular business hours. RNs troubleshoot respiratory equipment as needed. Registered Nurses are responsible for drawing labs, EKGs, and ABGs when necessary. Scheduling is managed digitally with preferred days accommodated as possible. Weekend requirements include working every third weekend, with accommodations available for weekend-only shifts. Holiday requirements apply as per contract guidelines. No call or standby requirement exists for this position. Floating requirements include assisting in MedSurg and managing ER patients as they arrive. Dark-colored scrubs are mandatory as per the dress code.
