About the Office The Department of Justice's National Fraud Enforcement Division (“Fraud Division”) investigates and prosecutes those who commit fraud against the American people. It uses data‑driven investigative techniques, coordinates with agencies administering taxpayer‑funded programs, partners with law enforcement across the country, and develops systems and processes that identify and investigate fraud. The Division works every day to protect the financial integrity of the United States, maintain the vibrancy of the American economy, and bring justice to fraud victims. Job Description The Fraud Division's Asset Recovery Section seeks to recover profits from fraud through civil and criminal authorities, seizing and forfeiting assets, and collecting judgments on behalf of the United States. The Deputy Chief oversees the Section’s most significant matters and assists in overall Division leadership, managing teams of prosecutors. Responsibilities Supervise and manage the work of Assistant Chiefs and Trial Attorneys, ensuring ongoing development and appropriate allocation of resources. Support Division management by providing input on budget allocation, hiring, personnel actions, technology, and reporting. Develop and maintain programs to foster effective investigation and prosecution of complex white‑collar and corporate cases, including litigation priorities and policy recommendations. Assist in managing the Section’s program to prosecute fraud‑related matters in partnership with U.S. Attorneys’ Offices, federal agencies, civil regulatory partners, and foreign law enforcement. Ensure staff execute the fraud enforcement strategy and achieve goals set by the Section Chief and Deputy Assistant Attorney General. Advises Trial Attorneys on strategic case approaches, assigns, oversees, and reviews work, and advises high‑level Department officials on significant prosecutions. Serve as a liaison on cases between the Fraud Division, other DOJ components, U.S. Attorneys’ Offices, and other criminal and civil enforcement agencies. Represent the U.S. in negotiations and discussions with corporate counsel and high‑level corporate officials. Requirements U.S. citizenship or national. Background investigation and pre‑employment drug testing. Selective Service registration, where applicable. Direct deposit bank account. J.D. degree, active bar membership in any jurisdiction. Financial disclosure may be required upon selection. Qualifications Required: J.D. or equivalent, licensed to practice law in any U.S. jurisdiction, and at least five (5) years of post‑J.D. legal experience. Active bar membership in good standing. Preferred: Experience as a criminal prosecutor, private practice attorney, judicial law clerk, litigation in U.S. District or state court, federal or civil asset forfeiture cases, investigations of organizations or corporations, training prosecutors and investigators, working with law enforcement, and supervising federal prosecutors or non‑attorney personnel. Education All academic degrees and coursework must be completed at an accredited college or university recognized by the U.S. Department of Education. Foreign education may be accepted if shown comparable to U.S. accredited programs. Documentation must be in English or include an English translation. Salary Permanent position at GS‑15 grade level. Salary range based on duty location. Number of Positions Multiple Travel Significant travel; frequency and location vary with litigation schedule. Relocation Expenses Relocation expenses will not be authorized.
