The incumbent is responsible for assessing physical and psychosocial status of patients in an inpatient and/or outpatient setting. The Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) or Physician Assistant delivers medical care to a wide variety of patients in both acute care and outpatient setting. The APP also examines and treats patients independently and in autonomous collaboration with other health care professionals. Ensures proper illness and injury care and disease prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and recovery. May prescribe medications and order diagnostic tests. Advises patients about continuing care. This position is Not remote and involves experience with Inpatient Hepatology and outpatient GI and hepatology.CORE JOB FUNCTIONSPerforms and documents complete physical examinations and comprehensive health histories.Functions independently to perform age-appropriate history and physical for patients.Orders and interprets diagnostic and therapeutic tests relative to patient’s age-specific needs.Prescribes appropriate pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic treatment modalitiesImplements interventions to support the patient to regain or maintain physiologic stability.Assists with the provision of care in accordance with facility, state, and federal regulations.Monitors the effectiveness of interventions.Facilitates the patient’s transition within and between health care settings, e.g. admitting, transferring, and discharging patients.Collaborates with multidisciplinary team members by making appropriate referrals.Facilitates staff, patient and family decision making by providing educational tools.Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.Department Specific FunctionsThe Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) with Acute Care Certification or Physician Assistant (PA) is responsible for the comprehensive assessment and management of patients with Gastroenterology and Hepatology conditions across both inpatient and outpatient settings. The APP will provide high-quality, patient-centered care through detailed history taking, physical examination, diagnostic evaluation, treatment planning, patient education, and coordination of multidisciplinary care.This position requires flexibility and proficiency in both inpatient and outpatient practice. The selected candidate will participate in a blended clinical model that includes approximately 1–3 weeks per month on the University of Miami Hospital (UMH) Hepatology Inpatient Service, with the remaining weeks dedicated to ambulatory practice in the hospital-based clinic at UMH. Outpatient responsibilities typically include 7–8 half-day clinic sessions per week. Depending on divisional and patient care needs, schedules will include a combination of inpatient and outpatient responsibilities, requiring collaboration with physicians, advanced practice providers, trainees, and multidisciplinary care teams.
