About the Position

Key Responsibilities

• Provide inpatient nursing care for a combination acuity unit serving adult medical surgical and surgical stepdown patients, including those with diagnoses such as cellulitis, appendicitis, cholecystitis, diverticulitis, bowel obstruction, peripheral vascular disease, various cancers, and trauma (MVA, GSW, falls)
• Support patients who have undergone or are preparing for a wide range of surgical procedures including cholecystectomy, appendectomy, hernia repair, TURP, ostomy creation or closure, wound debridement, tumor removal, amputations, and fem-pop bypass
• Manage and monitor specialty equipment including wound vacs, chest tubes, NG tubes/Corpak, JP drains, hemovac drains, and Penrose drains
• Maintain accurate documentation and communication using Pyxis, EPIC, and SBAR
• Float to other units within or near the facility as needed
• Work every other weekend; must be available to serve on a Storm Team and/or Hurricane Team and may be required to report during catastrophic events, mass casualty incidents, or disasters

• Active RN license in North Carolina or a valid Compact state license (pending licensure acceptable at time of submission)
• BLS certification required
• Must pass EKG testing prior to start
• Minimum 2 years of experience required; first-time travelers with sufficient experience will be considered
• Must be comfortable with a patient ratio of 1:6
• Must be open to floating within and near the facility as needed
• Local candidates residing within 50 miles of the facility are welcome; a local rate will apply

• Experience in a combined medical surgical and surgical stepdown environment
• Familiarity with EPIC electronic health records system
• Prior experience managing post-surgical and trauma patients
• Comfort with specialty drainage and wound management equipment

• Work in a dynamic, high-acuity inpatient surgical environment with exposure to a broad range of diagnoses and procedures
• Longer contract options (up to 26 weeks) available for candidates seeking extended placement stability
