Trading Operations Specialist

The role has direct responsibility for entire Americas operations team. The Operations Manager will manage all operational processes for Tata International Metals (Americas), including the design and execution of initiatives that improve the operational performance of the team in alignment with steel team strategy and direction. Additionally a hands-on, working role - The incumbent is expected to personally own and execute individual trade deals end-to-end — contract review, LC/banking coordination, customs documentation, and logistics — not only supervise others doing so. Team leadership and individual deal execution are both core, ongoing parts of this job. Key responsibility: Personally manage the steel trading desk and/or step directly into any team member's deal-execution responsibilities as required by the business — this is a standing part of the role, not an exception. Own individual trade files end-to-end when required: contract review, LC issuance/negotiation with banks, customs and regulatory filings, and coordination with logistics providers. Manage, mentor and supervise the US and India-US operations team across all aspects of trade execution. Manage and improve internal business operational procedures and paperwork processing by streamlining, standardizing, and automating operational processes. Develop the team into a customer-focused organization with strong relationships across commercial teams, customers and suppliers. Train and support ops staff in liaising with stevedores, warehouses, trucking companies and other logistics service providers. Ensure monthly warehouse reports are received, ageing inventory is optimized, and inventory is trued up against the system of record. Act as the direct escalation point on urgent or complex deals — intervening personally with banks, customs brokers, and vendors, not just routing the issue to a team member. Intervene promptly in issues or delays in payment of steel purchases, freight, and service providers. Coordinate with the F&A team to ensure proper authorization of vendor invoices before payment, in line with agreed terms and rates. Liaise with the IT department to improve the existing operational system, and manage claims. Work closely with traders and other regions/departments Must have skills: Full understanding of products, customer service and operations management, gained through direct, current desk-level exposure — not solely from an oversight seat. Experience designing and implementing new operations procedures. Customer focus with strong communication and team-building skills. Self-management — manages own time, priorities and resources to achieve goals. Staff management — coordinates staff in ways that improve their ability to succeed and improve teamwork. Attention to detail, for self and for team leads. Collaborative work style; multi-cultural sensitivity. In-depth, hands‑on exposure to international trade, banking (LC), and regulatory (customs) requirements, recent enough to still be workable at the desk level.
