Job Description: Summary: Responsible and accountable for the care of the assigned patients and who assesses, plans, implements, and evaluates the care of the patient assigned to the unit, performs clerical functions, performs RN duties as assigned, and is able to communicate with the public, physicians, and other hospital personnel. Functions: Functions as team leader, overseeing LPNs & CNAs assigned to his/her team. Directs others to assure care is based on patient needs, values, and choices. Practices autonomously within the scope of professional standards, the rules and regulations established by the Virginia Board of Nursing, and maintains knowledge of the policies and procedures within the system. Has a working knowledge of the nursing process and demonstrates skill in developing and guiding collaborative collegial practice that delivers safe competent care. Demonstrates sensitivity and understanding of the diverse cultural backgrounds of our patients and caregivers. Maintains current knowledge of evidence based nursing practice and possesses the ability to demonstrate critical thinking skills in the implementation of all phases of the nursing process. Actively participates in patient care quality and performance improvement through data collection, aggregation and analysis of relevant indicators of quality, which results in the development and implementation of action plans to include the monitoring of the effectiveness of improvements. Serves as a professional role model as a caregiver, mentor, teacher and resource for peers and other providers.
