1st Shift Material Handler

1st Shift Warehouse Worker $25/hr

This role supports logistics and materials handling operations by creating purchase order requests, coordinating with vendors on order status, and managing the movement and storage of parts and materials. The warehouse worker uses computer systems to process material orders and shipping requests, updates and documents order status, and ensures parts are properly sorted, stored, and prepared for assembly or shipment. The position requires a self-motivated individual who proactively solves problems and helps maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment.

Responsibilities

• Create purchase order requests and work closely with vendors to follow up on order status and delivery timelines.
• Coordinate materials handling runs between buildings to ensure timely movement of parts and materials.
• Communicate with shipping and handling personnel to understand requirements for domestic and international shipments.
• Use computer systems to navigate material orders and shipping requests, independently update records, and document status changes.
• Perform warehouse and storage activities for parts and materials, including parts sorting and organizing palletized material.
• Pull parts and kit orders from automated storage and retrieval systems (AS/RS, High Rise) to prepare for service, subassembly, or engine assembly operations.
• Deliver material to assembly areas in an assembly-ready condition and at the correct point of use.
• Prepare parts for shipment, including packaging, banding, weighing, and other shipping preparations.
• Handle inventory tasks such as counting, tracking, and verifying materials and finished goods.
• Operate material handling equipment, such as pallet jacks, to move materials safely and efficiently.
• Support shipping activities by staging, labeling, and organizing outgoing orders.
• Maintain a clean, orderly, and safe work environment in accordance with company standards and procedures.
• Identify and resolve issues as they arise, taking initiative to keep operations running smoothly.

Essential Skills

• At least 2 years of experience as a material handler or in a similar warehouse role.
• Proficiency in packing, picking, and material handling within a warehouse environment.
• Experience with inventory activities, including counting, tracking, and verifying materials.
• Knowledge of shipping processes and requirements, including preparing items for domestic and international shipments.
• Ability to operate material handling equipment such as pallet jacks safely and effectively.
• Computer skills to navigate material order and shipping request systems and accurately update and document order status.
• Strong organizational skills to sort parts, manage palletized materials, and maintain orderly storage areas.
• Ability to work independently, take initiative, and solve problems as operational issues arise.
• Commitment to maintaining a clean and safe work environment.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience working with automated storage and retrieval systems (AS/RS) or high-rise storage systems.
• Experience in delivering materials to assembly lines or production areas in an assembly-ready condition.
• Familiarity with packaging, banding, and weighing procedures for parts and materials.
• Ability to collaborate effectively with logistics, shipping, and handling personnel.
• Comfort working in a structured, lean, and highly organized warehouse setting.

Work Environment

The role is based in a large, older industrial building that has been structured according to lean principles, with everything placed precisely where it needs to be to support efficient operations. The environment is organized and process-driven, emphasizing cleanliness and safety. Work is performed on either first shift, typically 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., with the possibility of 10-hour days once fully trained, or second shift from 2:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. Employees work around warehouse equipment such as pallet jacks, automated storage and retrieval systems, and standard shipping and packaging tools, in a setting focused on smooth material flow and reliable support of assembly and refurbishment activities.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Waukesha, WI.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $25.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
