Diesel Fleet Mechanic

Location: Pflugerville, TX

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Diesel Fleet Mechanic to perform maintenance, diagnostics, and repairs on diesel-powered trucks, heavy-duty equipment, and material handling equipment. This role requires strong troubleshooting skills, hands-on mechanical experience, and the ability to work independently in a professional shop environment.

The ideal candidate has experience servicing Class 6-8 vehicles , hydraulic and air brake systems, emissions systems, and electronic diagnostics. You will play a key role in ensuring fleet reliability, safety, and uptime through both preventative maintenance and complex repairs.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform preventative maintenance and repairs on diesel trucks, heavy-duty equipment, forklifts, and related fleet assets.
• Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, air brake, and emissions systems.
• Troubleshoot vehicle and equipment issues using diagnostic software and tools such as Noregon, Snap-on, Nexiq, Autel , or comparable platforms.
• Perform after-treatment and emissions system repairs on Class 6-8 diesel equipment.
• Remove, replace, and properly torque wheels according to manufacturer specifications.
• Utilize fault codes, OEM manuals, and technical documentation to identify root causes and complete effective repairs.
• Complete scheduled maintenance services, inspections, oil changes, and equipment evaluations.
• Maintain accurate service records, including repairs performed, parts used, and mileage or operating hours.
• Identify potential maintenance issues during inspections to minimize downtime and improve equipment reliability.
• Manage parts inventory, including ordering, tracking, and organizing repair components.
• Repair and maintain forklifts, pallet jacks, and material handling equipment, including propane, electric, battery, and hydraulic systems.
• Safely operate shop equipment, including engine hoists, welding equipment, tire service equipment, and hand tools.
• Use computers, tablets, and diagnostic devices to access repair information, perform diagnostics, and complete work orders.
• Work independently with limited supervision while maintaining high standards of safety and workmanship.
• Stay current with evolving diesel technologies, electronic modules, and OEM repair procedures.

Required Qualifications

• Minimum 3 years of diesel mechanic or fleet maintenance experience .
• Experience maintaining and repairing Class 6-8 trucks and heavy-duty equipment .
• Knowledge of hydraulic systems, air brake systems, and diesel emissions/after-treatment systems.
• Experience using diagnostic software and electronic troubleshooting tools.
• Ability to interpret fault codes, technical manuals, and OEM repair documentation.
• Experience performing preventative maintenance and documenting completed work.
• Familiarity with parts management and inventory processes.
• Ability to provide and use personal basic hand tools.
• Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
• Ability to work independently and manage priorities in a fast-paced shop environment.
• Must be at least 18 years old.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience repairing forklifts and material handling equipment.
• Welding and light fabrication experience.
• Experience with advanced electronic control modules and vehicle diagnostic systems.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds with or without reasonable accommodation.
• Ability to perform frequent physical activities, including bending, reaching, climbing, lifting, kneeling, and handling tools and equipment.
• Ability to work safely in a maintenance shop environment.

Work Environment

This position is based in a fleet maintenance facility in Pflugerville, TX . Technicians work with diesel trucks, heavy equipment, forklifts, and other fleet assets using a combination of personal hand tools and company-provided diagnostic and shop equipment. The role involves hands-on repair work in a fast-paced environment with a strong emphasis on safety, quality, and independent problem-solving.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Pflugerville, TX.

The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $35.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
